Book Description

July 1, 2000
In this A Concise Lexicon to the Biblical Languages, for the first time in any book, Bible students now have a lexicon/dictionary with every one of the original 8,674 Hebrew words, and also every one of the 5,624 Greek words, of the Scriptures included in it. For ninety-five out of the hundred times the Bible student, Pastor, Minister, Preacher, Bible class teacher, or the host of God's saints who study to show themselves workmen unashamed (2 Tim. 2:15), this quick reference, easy-to-use lexicon is a jewel. You will literally wear it out, using it weekly, if not daily.

The words are alphabetical in order. This is important with the Hebrew words in particular. For the most used Hebrew lexicon is the Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew-Aramaic Lexicon. And one must know the root word to look up Hebrew entries in that lexicon, or else they must have a multi-paged index to it. This brief lexicon can even be used instead of the Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon in most of the cases when anyone desires a quick reference to the meaning and grammatical construction of a word.

In the Greek section also is provided coding to Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, and page references to Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon, Bauer-Arndt-Gingrich Greek-English Lexicon, and, Kittel's Theological Dictionary. This handy, quick study tool will revolutionize study of the Bible, saving a multitude of hours of study, yet providing comprehensive information not available in any other existing volume.

3.0 out of 5 stars A basic lexicon, December 28, 2007
This book is a very basic lexicon for both Hebrew and Greek. The words are all coded to Strong's Concordance numbers. So this book is good for those who do not know Hebrew and Greek. You can find the Strong's number for a word by using his concordance or by using Green's Interlinear Bible. You can then use that number to look up the underlying Hebrew or Greek word with this lexicon.

The format is to first give Strong's number, then the Hebrew or Greek word, then the basic definition(s), and a couple of verse references where the word is found. The definitions and looking up the verses make for a basic word study and will give you some feel for the meaning or range of meanings for the word. Page numbers for where the word can be found in more detailed lexicons are also given, so more in-depth word study can be pursued.

I bought this book years ago, after getting Green's Interlinear. And the use of these two volumes introduced me to the original languages and how fruitful word studies can be. But this book is just that, a very basic introduction to the original languages. If they inspire you to attain more in-depth lexicons or even to learn Hebrew and Greek, as they did me, then this book is worthwhile.

So I am glad that I got this book when I did. But given how basic it is, it was of little use to me as I worked on my Analytical-Literal Translation of the New Testament: Third Edition (ALT). But for an introduction, it is worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very handy if you know Greek & Hebrew, August 18, 2007
My Hebrew tutor turned me on to this book. It is really good. It's concise, covers the Greek and Hebrew, and very easy to use. Included are Strongs and BDB codes with page numbers for the larger lexicons. So if a lexicon has a long entry this tool gives you the part of the entry to go to, a nice time saver.

I'm a big fan of BibleWorks 7,0, which has all of these things digitally sortable, but for a manual option, this book at only $12 is a great deal and small enough to carry next to your bible!

It's a wonderful idea and I heartily recommend it.
