Not perfect to study for PTCB exam, but not a total waste!,

Concise Review for the PTCB Exam
This book focused too much on studying the drugs, and not enough time focusing on the actual PTCB exam. It does promise it is a "Concise Review" for the exam, and that's the reason I bought it. A promise the book did not deliver on. Although I passed the PTCB exam on the first try, I found that most of the material in this book was not relevant to the current PTCB exam. Written by a load of Pharm.D's, I think this book would be better suited if you were studying for the PCAT exam (which prepares you to go to Pharmacy School), not the PTCB exam. Sorry, many pages were a total waste of time, and made one believe "they were not ready" for the PTCB. The Pharmacy Law review did a decent job covering the essential laws to memorize, however, most of the book focused on the drugs, and in my opinion, it is a big mistake to focus on the drugs when preparing for the PTCB exam, which I took in December, 2007 and passed on the first try. I liked the practice tests at the back of the book, and suggest a total revision of this book if this goes into a second edition. Why not make it a book of sample practice tests and put the tests on a CD-ROM, which would give students practice taking exams on computers instead of filling in the bubbles! Memorizing the generic and trade names, as well as drug categories, will waste your valuable time in preparing for the PTCB. I found that the test focused more on hospital practice and pharm math. --Tina Velgos

This review is a good place to start, however it's far from complete. If you're starting from scratch then it's worth buying. However if you have any medical background training, then you probably know most of it already. All in all, it's an "ok" buy

After studying with only this book, and after being a tech for only 5 months, I passed the PTCE!,

I've only been a registered technician for five months, and my only training was received from on-the-job experience. Changes in state laws require that techs become certified by the end of 2010, so I decided to take the PTCE this summer, even though I had limited experience. I was really nervous! The only studying materials I bought consisted of just this book, "Concise Review for the PTCB Exam", and the knowledge I had from my job. I passed the exam recently with no problem after studying this book on and off for about a month. I am an accounting major, which might be part of the reason why I did well in terms of math, but I still feel that I owe a great deal to this amazing book :)

This book has a wonderful math section- everything you need to know about calculations and business math. Excellent explaination on each drug/ category of drug/use of drug/warning on drug/ interactions, etc. There's a great common law section as well. I briefly studied with this book (about 3 weeks not everyday but on and off) and I still passed the exam (but I've also been working as a pharmacy tech for 5 years now). Suggestion: Study, study, study the math section!!! Make sure you know everything you can about the calculations and conversions!

I used this book years ago for my PTCB Certification and I passed the exam with a high score. Great review book not only for the exam, but for the actual workplace. Would recommend to anyone looking for an easy to understand review for the PTCB exam.

This book is by far the best thing that I have yet to find to help prepare myself for the exam. I have not taken the exam yet, but I have all confidence that I will pass the exam with the help of this book. This book is very detailed, doesn't repeatedly review the same things and is definitely money well spent. I am sure that even in the future, I will still rely on this book. It has been a great help so far.

Helpful & Concise...as stated on the title,
This review is from: Concise Review for the PTCB Exam (Paperback)
I used to this book to review for the test and I passed. I spent about three days (2hrs/day) looking over it then took the test the following day. Overall I am satisfied with the book. What I like about the book is that has 3 practice tests, math problems, and that its not too detailed. There are simply way too many drugs to remember so this book does gives hints on how to distinguish and remember drugs using prefixes and suffixes; so I don't recommend memorizing every drug. There's a section on pharmacy law which I though was very helpful. The math problems are fairly easy and straight forward eg fractions, cnversions, business math, etc. The practice tests have 150 questions each but don't have any explanations except for the math questions.

The Concise Review is just that. It neatly wraps up several textbooks worth of formulas, data and theory into one user-friendly package. Drug classes are arranged nicely and formulas are discussed step by step.
