Concord Cunningham The Scripture Sleuth,
By Bob Schwandt (Decatur, Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Concord Cunningham the Scripture Sleuth (Concord Cunningham Mysteries) (Paperback)
We took this book to our grandchildren in California, and just put it on the table for them. That night we discovered the 11 year old girl sitting on the bunk bed reading to her 8 year old brother. No pressure from us. They had solved the first 4 mysteries, using both simple deduction and by applying the biblical cues.

I have had this book for years, since it first came out. I finally sat down and read it last week and finished the whole thing in one night! I loved it! I will be getting the other two for me, then passing them down to my kids as they get older, and buying them as gifts. Kept me guessing, great writing style, I just really liked this book and would reccomend it to anyone who likes mysteries, like the Hardy Boys or 3 Investigators.

This review is from: Concord Cunningham the Scripture Sleuth (Concord Cunningham Mysteries) (Paperback)
I read about this book in a homeschooling magazine and decided to buy it because we needed more stories to read aloud that had definite morals to them. We have read the first chapter and my son, age 8, is hooked already. He enjoyed reading Encyclopedia Brown last fall and this book is similar in format in that you have a complete mystery and resolution in each chapter. However each mystery comes with a Bible verse to help you solve it. My son sat with his Bible open on his lap while I read the story and he looked up the verse and then tried to figure out the solution. I'm thankful for any book that can get my kids interested in reading AND give them oppotunity to become more familiar with their Bibles!

A young readers delight,
By A Customer
This review is from: Concord Cunningham the Scripture Sleuth (Concord Cunningham Mysteries) (Paperback)
This book introduces readers to a new way of reading a book. The author creates a story but leaves the reader to solve the mystery. The chapters are short enough so younger kids won't get bored with the story, but long enough to keep you wondering how each mystery will be solved. A new and fresh idea for young readers who want to use the Bible as their everyday sword.
