5.0 out of 5 stars DAYTON SAYS: BUY THIS CD, December 16, 2002
This review is from: Concord Duo Series 7 (Audio CD)
Before I tell you anything about this CD...let me tell you something about Bill Mays. I guess it has been upwards of seven or eight years since I first heard of and heard Bill Mays. It was one of those beautiful nights at the Dear Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, PA. This is an old rustic place just over the New Jersey line out Route 80. Bill Mays was performing there. I got to speak with him briefly, and I came away with the feeling that this was a good man who listened to what you had to say...and not some fake entertainer. So...that's what I feel about the man. Now as far as this CD goes, I think I've played mine (as I am doing RIGHT NOW) about 1,000+ times. This is a treasure, as ALL of his CDs are. I notice that there are a couple more on Amazon...I'll be getting them very, very soon...(now where is my mouse). My advice is to buy this CD if you like what is known as laid-back jazz, with some numbers being straight ahead. Now as far as Ed Bickert goes...whenever I hear him, I usually feel that I should keep my own guitar left in the case. Bill and Ed are great musicians, and their combined effort on this CD is a pure delight. I have not seen Bill perform in person all these years later. Sure wish I could. But, for now, the CD will carry me through. I really would encourage you to check out this CD. DAYTON SAYS: BUY THIS CD.
