"Christmas time is here...All-Star-Jazz lineup from Concord",
This review is from: Concord Jazz Christmas 1 (Audio CD)
This impressive cast of musicians and artists from the stables of Concord Jazz perform selections for your Holiday Season---trying to come up with something original at this time of year is somewhat difficult---so our friends from Concord did something that many other labels wish they could do...take every individual that records under their banner and let them pick their favorite Christmas Carol or Song and do their own thing---thus we have an outstanding inspirational album, full of love and giving.Concord's lineup begins with "CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE"(Rosemary Clooney), what better tune and artist to implify the spirit of the year---"I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS"(Gene Harris), one of my all-time favorite songs, performed by my all-time favorite blues pianist---"THE SECRET OF CHRISTMAS"(Susannah McCorkle), beautiful melody and lyrics sung by a beautiful person---"CHRISTMAS LOVE SONG"(Scott Hamilton/Al Plank), deliver a smooth velvety sound, in front of a warm fireplace---"THE CHRISTMAS WALTZ"(Rob McConnell Trio), the sound of Big Band will live on forever---"WHAT ARE YOU DOING CHRISTMAS EVE?"(Carol Sloane), love this girl, makes you wish Christmas could go on and never stop, what a warm and glowing feeling suddenly comes over you. If you enjoyed this album, you might try "A Concord Christmas Vol. 2", worthy of a joyous Holiday Season listen. Total Time: 64:23 on 17 Tracks ~ Concord Jazz CCD-4613 ~ (1991/1994)

This CD is a compilation of Concord Records great recording artists. I especially bought this one because it had Jeannie Cheatham's Christmas song "An Apple, An Orange and a Little Stick Doll". Some country star like Lee Ann Rhimes or Shania Twain or Carrie Underwood should cover this song for their Christmas CD. It's beautiful.

I recommend this to anyone that likes smooth jazz and wants mood music for Christmas gatherings. Combined with other smooth jazz Christmas CDs on shuffle, they make Christmas parties seem more festive.

While mainly background music for cooking Christmas dinner, there are a few tracks on this disc which make one stop and listen. This CD contains probably the best arrangement of "Angels We Have Heard on High" I've heard to date. Scaggiari and his Trio do a wonderful job. There are some vocal tracks which are probably a bit typical, but it's Christmas. And the late Susannah McCorkle shines on her track. Of the two Concord Christmas albums, this is the better.
