5.0 out of 5 stars songs worth swallowing a little pride for
despite the evils of this collection being released without the bands' knowledge, this is quite an exception in the world of "b-sides and rarities" albums. most i have heard usually have one or two good songs and the rest leaves no mystery to why they are rare or unreleased. all of the songs on this collection are wonderful (with the exception of "sikh in...

I love this album...however I would NEVER buy it, it is a re-release of a previous grandaddy album, that the band did not want produced, and can be obtained from the bands website, grandaddylandscape.com.

Being a huge Grandaddy fan I couldn't help but buy this album. I assume anyone considering purchasing this cd already has the three proper Grandaddy LPs. If not get those first. They are all brilliant. If you still need a grandaddy fix after those buy "Broken down comforter collection". It is essentially the same disk as this missing a couple of tracks. I know what you're thinking, if there's less tracks why get bdcc instead? The reason why is that concrete dunes was released without grandaddy's permission (as opposed to bdcc) and the extra couple of tracks aren't worth selling your soul to some evil record company exec. That said all the songs are grandaddelicious so you won't be dissapointed if you do purchase.

despite the evils of this collection being released without the bands' knowledge, this is quite an exception in the world of "b-sides and rarities" albums. most i have heard usually have one or two good songs and the rest leaves no mystery to why they are rare or unreleased. all of the songs on this collection are wonderful (with the exception of "sikh in a baja vw bug," which would've been okay to stay unreleased or rare), some shine more than many of their album tracks and singles. most show the bands softer side, and many tend to be sad, but there is such a warm vunerability that they don't bum you out. "for the dishwasher" is my new theme song for late night bike rides home from work, and "why would i want to die," "lava kiss," and "12-pak-599" are more new favorites to add to the wonderful list of grandaddy classics.
if you are opposed to buying an album put out without the bands' permission, do yourself a favor and track these songs down somehow. it will be well worth it. also, if you don't own the "signal to snow radio" e.p., buy it immediately...you won't be sorry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Concrete Dunes..., February 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Concrete Dunes (Audio CD)
Please be advised that this album arrives without "Grandaddys'" input or knowledge. It consists primarily of The Broken Down Comforter Collection, which can be found in stores for less money than Concrete Dunes is selling for. The band was not involved in the decision to rerelease or repackage this album either. I think that it's probably inappropriate for me to discourage you from buying it, so I won't actually verbalize that sentiment. But you can find all these b-sides on their various singles.
A FAN

4.0 out of 5 stars What the Hey, July 10, 2007

Well, surely Jason receives songwriter royalties, yes? With that said, this cd is definitely worth grabbing. In particular, it features "12-pak-599" (missing from the Comforter Collection). "12-pac-599" has great use of sound effects, sustained chords, and Jason's voice--and a faux chorale to boot. You'll think you died and went to Heaven. I suppose you might instead try tracking down one of the old singles that included it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not released by the band., February 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Concrete Dunes (Audio CD)
Although this CD is a good source for some rare tracks, they can be obtained elsewhere for cheaper. The band themselves don't like the release of this album, calling everything about it "questionable." It's your decision whether you buy it or not, but remember that you are only supporting the money-hungry record company that Grandaddy is no longer on, and not the band itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK GOD THIS CD IS OUT NOW!, February 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Concrete Dunes (Audio CD)
Wow, Thank God! What matters most is the music and on this CD it's a must have if you're a fan... Now I know the band themselves have some "issues" with the label releasing it, but like everything in life there's probably two sides to the story. So whatever...

Particularly good is the _really_ hard to find lead track "Why Would I Want To Die." This album rules!

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY SPECIAL ALBUM!, February 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Concrete Dunes (Audio CD)
There is plenty to be excited about on this album. The songs are from the early days of Grandaddy and they show how and why this band has become one of the great ones. I really love "Why Would I Want to Die". In it's own way it is a top 2 or 3 song of all time for Grandaddy. The album as a whole really made me appreciate the beauty of one of my favorite bands.
