The best concrete book available,
By A Customer
This review is from: Concrete: Structure, Properties, and Materials (Prentice-Hall International Series in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics) (Hardcover)
This book is a classic. Everyone who studies or works with concrete should own this book. It is technically superior to all others, yet easy to read. It has always been my first (and sometimes, only) reference.

Concepts are presented in a logical, easy to understand manner; equations are well-defined and referenced. ASTM references are given for each testing procedure they mention. Historical information and interesting facts presented in the text make for a more enjoyable read. I can't say anything bad about the content of the book or its organisation. The CD-ROM features some of the more complicated derivations, which is helpful, but I wish it was in a different format. It consists of a sole 1300+ page pdf, maybe 50 of which supposedly contain video media. The entire file is nearly half a gigabyte. I can't get any of the videos to load; I think web-based navigation might've been better, since it could load one page at a time and would probably support video playback better. Either that or separate the powerpoint slides, bonus material, and figures into separate PDFs and put the videos in their own folder in whatever format they're supposed to be in. Since the CD is only supplemental it's not worth deducting a star, but a half gig file is excessive when you just want to reference one chapter at a time.
