Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1These titles take children up close and onboard four of the most awe-inspiring vehicles around town. On the Job sections describe what the vehicles do; the dynamic close-up photographs that appear on almost every page are particularly successful here. The Climb Aboard segments are less successful, for only in Bulldozers do they come close to giving a sense of what sitting in the drivers seat might really be like. The final Up Close pages label the parts of the machines. Each book concludes with a rudimentary but informative glossary. However, there is some inconsistency; three of the books use the term lever in the text but only two define it. While the one to three sentences to a page, controlled vocabulary, and large print recommend these volumes to beginning readers, younger machine enthusiasts will enjoy hearing them read aloud.Edith Ching, St. Albans School, Mt.
