Book Description

Bound by friendship, two women find themselves at common crossroads, struggling with choices both past and present, career and home.

Simone Sheridan and Claire Atkins have been friends since college. Upon graduation, they took off in different directions, forging separate paths through motherhood. Neither planned to look back on the road they traveled with regret—yet that's exactly what’s at stake when their daughters issue opposing proclamations with regard to college.

Both mothers battle the news, but soon come to learn they must change course, or lose the sacred relationship between mother and daughter. But change is not an easy task when Simone and Claire unexpectedly find themselves staring down their choices, confronted by the same question: Where did I go wrong?

4.0 out of 5 stars Struggles Shared by Moms February 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The author has captured two issues that almost every mother faces: how to effectively incorporate work-life balance without regret and how to react when a child's dreams for her future differs from her mother's plans. Vennetta effectively exposes the hearts of the two main characters as they deal with a variety of struggles drawing the reader into the fray. I found myself voicing my opinion, in my head, of course, as the scenarios played out in the book. I couldn't wait to see how the struggles played out at the end. Reading this novel was a primer for when my Tween girl starts to make decisions regarding her future.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really tried to like this book and couldn't February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Maybe I just don't like the method of telling this story - I couldn't find any interest in any of the characters, and I couldn't make myself read past chapter 2. Maybe I never attempted to live my children's lives and never tried to keep them so close they'd suffocate......Wow! That says a lot about how I feel about these two mothers! I can't recommend the book for anyone who believes in giving children strong roots so that they can develop wings to fly.

5.0 out of 5 stars a winding road of emotions January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The extraordinary author, Dianne Venetta, has included something for every mom in this page - turner. As a mother of two boys, this takes me back to trials of my youth with my parents. God bless them for putting up with me! Dianne offers a look into the roller coaster ride between hopeful parents and the independent young women that every parent of girls hopes to raise. There IS SOMETHING for every woman in this book!

The so called drama in this story, two friends whose daughters decide to choose paths different from what the mothers hoped for them, wasn't the life-shattering tragedy that Venetta tried to convince the reader it was. In addition, she wasted many pages on the issue of stay-at-home mom verses career mom. She beat that horse to death rather than actually provide the reader with a reason to want to finish reading her book.

2.0 out of 5 stars It felt like a lecture. March 15, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Actually, I skimmed most of the book. It never grabbed me. And I was in the middle, I worked part time when raising my children and had great success when I rejoined the business world. It just dragged from one side to the other. I couldn't really like either woman involved, And the illness - the book was way off on that. I deleted from my library.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Good Hallmark Channel Movie June 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was hoping for more depth to the story. Very predictable, over the top flowery phrases and stereotypical characters made this a disappointment. It would make a great TV movie - family tensions, friendship conflicts, grand themes of life's dreams and regrets. Great for someone who loves these types of books and stories, but too fluffy for my taste.

4.0 out of 5 stars Condemn me not November 14, 2013

Very enjoyable reading. Good character development and growth. Nicely expressed perspectives on a relevant issue fit nicely into the storyline. My only criticism is that I wish the book was longer!

More About the Author

LADD CHRISTMAS brings your favorite characters back for the holidays! NOW available.

Introducing my new SILVER CREEK series...

Set in a fictional ski resort town in Colorado, eco-minded heroines face treacherous threats in the rugged landscape, explosive deception and scandalous ploys as they strive to engender real change in the world. The first novel in this romantic adventure series, NOT WITHOUT YOU, has just released!

Dianne Venetta lives in Central Florida with her husband and two children--and her part-time Yellow Lab (Cody!). An avid gardener, she spends her spare time growing organic vegetables. Surprised by the amazing discoveries she finds there every day, she wondered, "Who knew there were so many similarities between men and plants?"

What began as a brief hiatus from writing has blossomed into an ever-expanding home garden and blog at BloominThyme.com -- stop by and share some tips!

When she's not knee-deep in dirt or romance or mystery fiction, Dianne contributes garden advice for various websites (a crazy existence to be sure). But at the end of the day, if she can inspire someone to stop and smell the roses--or rosemary!--kiss their child and spouse good-night, be kind to a neighbor and Mother Earth, then she's done all right.

Her debut novel, JENNIFER'S GARDEN received 4 1/2 stars from RT Book Reviews, May 2012!
