Editorial Reviews

Review

"Since the announcement of EPA regs mandating technician testing, there has been a tremendous demand for a guidebook which will 'do it all': get your employees certified, get your equipment in order, and make sure you're OK with the EPA... This book may be your best resource you have, short of a paid consultant. A valuable book... for $29.00 you get a lot of useful information." -- Joe Cronley, Publisher of REFRIGERATION NEWS, October 1994

From the Publisher

This book will assist companies and technicians to comply with the Clean Air Act's refrigerant recycling rule for sections 608 and 609 and prepare service technicians for the certification test. You can use this guide to plan for on-site EPA inspections, develop training plans, prepare for certification testing, and review EPA and DOT labeling and record keeping requirements. It also provides information on standards and practices for freon recovery and reprocessing, and refrigeration prohibitions that will help you and your company avoid EPA fines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Test Cramming Guide, June 28, 2000

This book is written specifically to help you pass the exam. It's probably possible to pass the exam using only this book.

The book is user-friendly, and full of practice tests, as well as a complete closed-book simulated exam. But the book is not organized real well, and it repeats some questions. You should know the answers to those questions well enough. Just hope they are repeated again on the real exam!

Overall a good basic guide to passing the test. Not a manual for refrigeration repair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good review of basics, June 19, 2004
By
Larry Twedt (Cortland, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician's Epa Certification Guide (Paperback)
I bought this book, studied it, then took the EPA test and was universal certified. My average score was 94. The book's strengths are the many practice questions and practice exams in the appendix section. The questions did a good job reinforcing the reading material. The only drawbacks are some of the date and regulation (DOT and CFR) questions. I had only a few date questions and no regulation questions on the EPA test. I also think the book could do a better job explaining low pressure systems such as chillers. Overall though, I'd say this book did a good job preparing me for the EPA exam.

2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated and full of mistakes, August 24, 2008
This review is from: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician's Epa Certification Guide (Paperback)
The last printing of this book is 2004. The information is dated. The answer keys are full of errors. Until I take the certification test, I can't be too certain of the quality of this book, but I can be certain that a copy editor was needed before publication. At this point, I feel I've wasted my money simply because of the numerous errors in the book.
