4.0 out of 5 stars Forgotten treasure from El Dorado, June 13, 2002
By
This review is from: El Condor Pasa / Indian Harps & Flutes (Audio CD)
Numerous South and Central American folk albums have flooded stores in the past decade as our hunger for the exotic grows, too many to count. Even the number of albums alone named El Condor Pasa can be confusing and distracting. What if someone were to tell you to ignore them all except this one?

This is the album lost in the shuffle of Peruvian, Argentinian and Paraguay music that would be a shame to have missed. Don't believe me? Click on the download samples above and you will hear music that has the heart and soul of the Indian and Mestizo musicians who peformed for the recording. Still don't believe me? Compare the music to any of the other South American folk albums mass produced; feel the rythm and tempo that comes from only those who have passion for their music and its history. There are no lackluster performances on the entire album. Where other albums seem to be dominated by the obvious Pipa flute with a guitar or two to complement or even a "New Age" synthesizer to eradicate any traditional sound , El Condor Pasa reverts to traditional and fun music: miniature ensembles of mariachi guitars of all sizes, a harp-like instrument (zither?) that is invigorating and enchanting, and talented flutists who play in perfect symphony.

Worth it's weight in gold, El Condor Pasa is a steal from Laserlight, it's manufacturer. El Condor Pasa is a journey far south of the border; you can almost visualize Spanish colonial plazas filled with campesinos and young couples courting in the shade of ancient trees. Don't let this treasure slip through your fingers.

3.0 out of 5 stars ** BUYER CAUTION** - There are two versions of this CD, April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: El Condor Pasa / Indian Harps & Flutes (Audio CD)
This CD (UPC 018111516327, Laserlight 15 163) has been released in two versions; the original 22 track (55 minute) CD and an 11 track (31 minute) CD. Furthermore, the 11 track CD contains only 10 unique songs since the music on tracks 7 & 8 is identical. The 22 track CD cover has "55 MIN" printed in the upper right corner while the 11 track CD cover is blank in the upper right corner.

Prior to a purchase, I suggest the vendor be contacted to verify which version of the CD is being offered for sale. There is also an import version (UPC 4006408151630) of this CD that contains all 22 tracks.

The 22 track CD contains an outstanding collection of harp and flute music; it deserves a five star rating. The 11 track CD is mediocre and deserves no more than a three star rating.
