The Pulitzer selection committee could not find a work it thought worthy of the prize in the year 1971. How the committee missed this one is a mystery to me. This multi-level work surely belongs in the pantheon of those named worthy of the prize. I think that those of us who attend to the opinions of the Pulitzer committee might well agree that this was an oversight.
