1.0 out of 5 stars Lame
This book is more like a thick pamphlet and is about as lame as it gets. I expected a real book with substantive information from someone with objectivity and experience. What I got was amateur writing and little useful information that could not be obtained for free on the Internet in about 20 minutes. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Your Paranormal Library, July 19, 2008

Conducting a Paranormal Investigation: A Training Guide
By Beth Brown

This book is a good guide for the beginning paranormal investigator. It is also a good reference guide for any ghost hunter to have in their kit or library. The author takes you step by step through the process from start to finish.

The guide covers your pre-investigation needs and safety all the way through making your findings and conclusions. Ms. Brown also includes what to pack, how to interview clients and witnesses, research, setting up, investigation techniques, and data analysis. Sprinkled among the chapters are some handy tips the author has found helpful during the course of her own paranormal forays.

The chapters on data analysis and EVP classifications are particularly helpful. The resource section is extremely useful; it contains sample forms, legal agreements, interview questions, and recommended web sites. Even if you don't use the samples verbatim, they can act as springboards for making customized versions of your own.

All in all I give this guide two thumbs up. This slim volume is jam packed with useful resources and information for the paranormal investigator. I personally carry it with me now in my own ghost hunting kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Conducting a Paranormal Investigation - A Training Guide (Paperback)
This training guide is a very valuable resource for those starting their paranormal investigations. It proves just as valuable for experienced investigators as well. It is well-written and easy to follow. Beth's writing style is neither didactic nor condescending, and she makes sure to include what not to do, as well as what to do.

again, for the novice, this is a very good starter book. I goes into some depth as to equipment, location, photos, etc. For the serious investigator that is starting out, this book has step by step advice on how to correctly proceed in an investigation. In this book, like the handbook, it has forms and sample questions. It has some interesting websites to check out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Book!, January 27, 2009
This review is from: Conducting a Paranormal Investigation - A Training Guide (Paperback)
I truely enjoyed this book. Not exactly what I was expecting. It actually had me sitting on the edge of my seat at times, as I did not know it would be scarey. I found it an easy quick read. Love it. The knowledge and experience of the writers was apparent throughout the book.

This book is more like a thick pamphlet and is about as lame as it gets. I expected a real book with substantive information from someone with objectivity and experience. What I got was amateur writing and little useful information that could not be obtained for free on the Internet in about 20 minutes. Personally I think the booklet barely qualifies as much more than an outline and even the legal form and other forms are a total joke, looking like something a grade school project would dream up. The best part of this booklet is it's cover which looks good. Unfortunately the rest of it is pretty much amateur bunk as far as I am concerned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter book!, February 27, 2010
This review is from: Conducting a Paranormal Investigation - A Training Guide (Paperback)
When I received this book, I have to say, I was surprised at how thin it was. It is quite thin and I was expecting more book. However, this is a wonderful starter book, written in easy to understand language and I would recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Basic Training Guide For Beginners, April 16, 2009
This review is from: Conducting a Paranormal Investigation - A Training Guide (Paperback)
This is a good book for those who would like to start thier own paranormal investigations. It covers those basic items one would need and how to investigate in the world of spirits. The paranormal is a "hot" subject these days and this is one of the better books out there to start one's path into the investigating part of the paranormal.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice overview, but not worth the money..., December 8, 2010

This review is from: Conducting a Paranormal Investigation - A Training Guide (Paperback)
If you're purchasing this book to learn how to conduct a thorough paranormal investigation, you're wasting your money. I've read several books on the topic and this one is the worst. Given that I had previously read other books on the topic, this book didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. It's also extremely short at 52 pages and there isn't a whole lot of text on each page. I read it in about an hour. On a positive note, it is cheap, well written and it does contain useful information. However, it is far from thorough and could not be a considered a guide to conducting a paranormal investigation due to the fact that it ignores so many important elements of paranormal investigation. If you're interested in getting into the field and you're looking for an introductory text, I would consider reading "The Everything Ghost Hunting Book" by Melissa Martin Ellis. "The Everything Ghost Hunting Book" is obviously written by a Ghost Hunters fan who embraces the TAPS methodology to paranormal investigation. Even still, it leaves plenty of stones unturned, but is still in my opinion a good "introductory text". From there I would recommend reading "Paranormal Technology: Understanding the Science of Ghost Hunting" by David M. Rountree. This is undeniably the best book I've read on the topic and quite possibly the best written. But if you're not interested in "real scientific" paranormal investigation and just want to plod around a room with an EMF detector and a digital recorder, stick to the "Everything Ghost Hunting Book".
