Book Description

May 20, 1998

This comprehensive guide presents the literature on child custody evaluations in a coherent, logically integrated format that can be applied directly to practice.

Jonathan Gould proposes new assessment models that are based on studies of the 10 percent of divorced couples who pursue resolution of custody disputes. The book comprises a conceptual framework - history, systems, standards and rules, and business/office management issues, the evaluation process - practical hands-on guidance, and suggestions for the evaluator preparing for the court.

5.0 out of 5 stars very serious approach to the topic, February 19, 2006
This review is from: Conducting Scientifically Crafted Child Custody Evaluations (Paperback)
His case studies are compelling examples of the mistakes that dominate the real work products of the field. I love the way at the start of each chapter he presents a reasonable sounding evaluation (unless you know from experience what mistakes to look for), and then by the end of the chapter you understand that it was meant as an example of what NOT to do, and you now have a deep understanding of why.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Important Volume, October 30, 2010
By
RASimon (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
Dr. Gould's second edition expands on his previous book in which he laid out the fundamental empirical model for conducting child custody evaluaitons. This comprehensive and pithy volume challenges practitioners to adopt a scientific, empirical and scholarly mindset towards child custody evaluations rather than coming from a more clinically oriented point of view. Indeed, Dr. Gould provides a thorough and compelling argument illustrating why using clinical data gatherin gand inference making methods is not only antiquated but also potentially dangerous. Reflecting Dr. Gould's own scholarly approach towards the field, the book also serves as a comprehensive bibliography of the literature in the field. As an experienced child custody evaluator myself, it is my opinion that Dr. Gould's book belongs in the library of any custody evaluator or legal professional who works with child custody evaluations.
