This CD-ROM worked right from the very first use. I bought this item several months ago and only recently dragged it out for my history and genealogical research. I should have pulled it out a long time ago. There are a plethora of books, stories, accounts, etc. written by people in the Civil War. There are some muster rolls, chaplain accounts, soldier accounts, regimental histories, etc. (the list goes on). YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET TO USE THIS CD-ROM. There are a couple of "squirrely" facts about this program: (1)You have to type in a password to access the contents (password is in the insert sheet). Not sure why this added step, but, since you're given the password, no problem; (2) You have to keep up a screen running in the background that enables the search engine. Again, no problem, but I couldn't figure out why. I looked up how much it would have cost me to purchase each item included in this CD-ROM and was floored. If you purchase each item separately at an average cost of $20 each, you would spend well in excess of $2,000 and that wouldn't even begin to touch the shipping. Of course, this all assumes that YOU COULD EVEN FIND EACH BOOK. This is one of the best purchases I ever made.

Disappointed. Must hook up CD Roam to the internet and though my computer it just what's called for it did not work.
