A great Texas Civil War research book., August 15, 1999

This review is from: Confederates on the Caney: An illustrated account of the Civil War on the Texas Gulf Coast
"Confederates on the Caney" is really a great research book for the Civil War in Texas. It is a first of its kind and Mr. McKinney did a wonderful job in giving us a first hand look at the civil war on the Texas gulf coast. Us Texas "Civil War" buffs now have something to read, learn and look at from Texas's role during the war. The maps are new and fresh as well as the many photos of the excavated artifacts such as buttons, bullets, buckles, ordnance and more. The book well describes the historical foot note of an event that took place in a small unlikely section on the Texas gulf coast. His use of perspectives from both Confederate and Federal view points from the "Official Records" enhance the story of Texas's resistance of Union occupation. There is a lot of information crammed into this little book. I look forward to seeing more of Mr. Mckinneys work.
