Ill Nino's second album, "Confession," is a much more personal album than their debut. First of all, I think there is a general misconception of what "metal" is, but because much of the noise that is produced today is referred to as metal, I will leave that discussion for another day. I purchased "Revolution..." a couple of years ago based solely upon a magazine review, and was favorably surprised and impressed with the depth and...

Ill Nino's second album, "Confession," is a much more personal album than their debut. Combining metal and Latin influences (I know this sounds strange, but trust me it works), this band has successfully produced melodic, heavy and beautiful songs. While I feel this is their most personal work, I don't like it as much as their previous album, "Revolution Revolucion." However, it's a treat to see that they didn't recycle that album and have come out with a newer and different sound while still maintaining a dark and heavy approach.

This is a really talented band on the metal scene, as they take their music to different levels. Their sound is very unique and they never sound like they're repeating the same old thing over and over again. The lead singer knows how to growl and sing with the best of them, and the guitars are absolutely amazing. What it all comes down to is that Ill Nino is a band with extremely talented people. It's clear that these guys always have different ideas going around, and they use that to their advantage.

People who are more familiar with their debut may be a little let down by this album, as it isn't nearly as heavy. Don't get me wrong, the album is still very heavy, just not as much as "Revolution Revolucion." I really love the sound of this album and was not let down, although I can't honestly say that I prefer this album over the previous one. I can pretty much listen to the whole CD in its entirety, but I find myself skipping to my favorites rather than just letting the entire album play all the way through for the most part. The only downside of this album is that I don't find it has that punch or intensity as their first release, and it's not because of the different sound.

Despite that, I still think it's a great album. My favorite songs are "te amo... I hate you," "how can I live," "unframed," "letting go," "two," "cleansing," "re-birth," "this time's for real," and "when it cuts." The one song I really dislike is "numb." It doesn't fit in with the rest of the album, and I always find myself skipping over it. In time, I may grow to like it. It has happened in the past. I just don't like the song right now. Other than that, I enjoy the rest of the songs.

"Confession" is a fine album from a group that has once again shown great promise. There's a lot of growth within this album, even though I feel that it isn't as powerful or as memorable as their debut. Ill Nino knows how to make great music and I look forward to seeing what they have planned next. If you're a fan of Ill Nino, then this is something to check out. If you haven't heard Ill Nino yet, then I strongly suggest picking up a copy of "Revolution Revolucion" and then checking out "Confession." Not a bad effort, if you ask me. I hope to see further progress from them in the near future. -Michael Crane

5.0 out of 5 stars ILL NINO - CONFESSION, February 16, 2004

This is one of the best albums of 2003. Although it's a lot more melodic than their debut album, this is 10 times better in my opinion. Almost every song on here is very catchy, which can be bad for some bands, but not in this case. The singer's voice really stands out on every track, proving that he has one of the most amazing voices ever. Unfortunately, this band will always be held back because they're too heavy to be mainstream, but mainstream sucks anyway. If you're a fan of bands like Sevendust, Korn, Static-X, Disturbed, etc. then I suggest checking out one of the best albums of the year, Ill Nino's "Confession". My favorite songs include: How Can I Live, Have You Ever Felt, This Time's For Real, When It Cuts, and Letting Go.

01 - Te Amo...I Hate You - 3/5
02 - How Can I Live - 5/5
03 - Two (Vaya Con Dios) - 3/5
04 - Unframed - 5/5
05 - Cleansing - 3/5
06 - This Time's For Real - 5/5
07 - Lifeless...Life... - 4/5
08 - Numb - 4/5
09 - Have You Ever Felt - 5/5
10 - When It Cuts - 5/5
11 - Letting Go - 5/5
12 - All the Right Words - 4/5
13 - Re-Birth - 4/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Good album, from an average band, May 8, 2006
This review is from: Confession (Audio CD)
Confession is my favourite Ill Nino album, but all fine (except One Nation Underground). The two percussionist plays great, the vocal is good, and the songs are melodius & near to perfect...The softess song's "Numb",and the heaviest is "Te Amo...I Hate You".Well,I can't say lot of negative things with this album.A don't give 4 stars for this, cuz' it's much better and more creative than other popular nu-metal/metalcore bands. And why 5 stars ? Just listen the music, and you'll know.

Don't have this album? Get it. I also own "Revolution, Revolucion" which had much more harsh vocals and lyrics, but it just didn't have that polished feel to it. Enter Confession, my most anticipated album this year. This album has it all, from start to finish it's a melodic rhapsody of emotional lyrics, emotional vocals, and agressive guitars. The salsa feel of the bass lines, mixed with the heavy guitars, and frequent tempo changes put Ill Nino in a genre all their own. "Te Amo...I Hate You" is a wonderful example of this concept, as it best conveys what you should expect from an Ill Nino album. This album is worth every penny, add it to your collection, or it won't be complete. I'd also recommend "Revolution, Revolucion". Ill Nino pwnz j00.

Ill Nino is a good band, has a few different things that make them good. The funniest thing about this band is there live shows. I saw them in Vegas and they bring an aucoustic guitar on stage, play it for about 3-5 seconds, and someone would lug it off stage. I dont know if they do this every night, but really funny to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than I expected, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Confession (Audio CD)
I bought this cd when it came out but I'm just now getting around to writing a review for it because now I feel like I truly understand it. In "Confession" there is so many different moods it makes you really listen to the lyrics. While being very melodic it is also very heavy. My favorite track on this cd would be the whole cd it means so much to me I don't know what I would do without it. If you want passionate, very heavy, melodic music pick this album up.

5.0 out of 5 stars "GODS WANT SOMETHING........", June 14, 2004

I live in NJ and remember seeing these guys play every now and then around NJ and NYC back in the mid 90s. Man have these guys improved! They were very much into the NYC harcore fixture for a while, now they really have broken through not only with their sound but with the audience as well. Excellent new CD! puts alot of the so called "new metal" bands to shame. Oh and it's nice to see a great Jersey band representing for all us Latinos!! Keep it up!!

First of all, I think there is a general misconception of what "metal" is, but because much of the noise that is produced today is referred to as metal, I will leave that discussion for another day. I purchased "Revolution..." a couple of years ago based solely upon a magazine review, and was favorably surprised and impressed with the depth and breadth of the music contained therein; they had really set themselves apart from the amoebic crowd of sonic trash peddlers out there today. "Confessions" is a decent release...but sounds a little overproduced and forced. After one listen, I gave it to my 17 year old son, who of course loves it. His review of the album is analogous to what is found within the other reviews here. So, do you purchase the release? If you plan on following this band into the future, then of course. Because I prefer less profanic anger in my music, I choose to listen to more "musically" diverse heavy stuff that requires a trained ear to appreciate, though also admitting quite possibly that what I listen to is lyrically inferior to Ill Nino. Maybe I'm getting too old, but when the lyrical content is all that is focused upon, with the music as background noise, much of what we call the "art of music" is lost. These guys are not not bad here, just less unique than the numerous cast of "others," on this particular release. Nu-metalheads will love it. Check out the new "Soil" and "Drowning Pool" albums for a similar taste of good music.

4.0 out of 5 stars A giant leap forward from their debut., March 29, 2004
This review is from: Confession (Audio CD)
Ill Nino first came into the scene in 2001 with their debut "Revolution...Revolucion," and while it was a passable, straight-forward nu-metal CD, it didn't use the band's penchant for tribal beats and singer Christian Machado's unique melodic singing style as much to it's advantage as possible. "Confession," the band's second disc, is a far more mature, more professional, and overall superior album to it's predecessor. Together, with ex-Machine Head guitarist Ahrue Luster, the band has created some of the most unique and textured songs that nu-metal (what seems to be a dying genre) has to offer. "Te Amo...I Hate You" and "Two (Vaya Con Dios)" serve as the two best offerings of this album and firmly respresent the whole vibe of the album. The first single, "How Can I Live" is a standout, (I'm sure everyone has heard it by now from "Freddy Vs. Jason") and there is a spanish language version of the track at the end of the CD. "When It Cuts" and "This Time's For Real" are the more aggressive side of the disc and will please fans of the first album. Basically, however, the whole album is solid from start to finish. There isn't a bad song on it. These guys have grown in leaps and bounds in just two years. They have made a fan out of me, and they will make many more to come. They definitely deserve some attention. If you enjoy bands like Soulfly, Korn or P.O.D., you will find something in this album for you.
