Book Description

April 29, 2011
Stand-up comic and writer/filmmaker Stacy Dymalski learned about parenting the hard way; she became one. After 36 years of childless living spoiled her into believing happy hour was just a normal part of one's daily commute, she moved to Utah (to ski everyday, of course) and within a year got pregnant. (Isn't that what happens to any woman who moves to Utah?) Before she knew it she had two young sons and suddenly sleep won out over midnight comedy shows. Juicy Juice replaced Gray Goose vodka (although they are good mixed). Prada bags gave way to diaper bags. Showers couldn't last longer than a "Bob the Builder" video. Vacations took a back seat to music lessons, and band instruments littered the house like empty beer bottles in a college dorm. And for the first 10 years of her sons' lives she felt compelled to clean up her language (sort of). In between carpools and doing crazy stuff like lobbying for sex education in schools (so our kids don't grow up thinking the missionary position involves a bicycle and a doorbell) Stacy has documented her parenting journey in this delightful collection of laugh-out-loud stories that her children are sure to contest once they're old enough to understand the art of irony and exaggeration.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"This laugh-out-loud funny parenting memoir from standup comedian Dymalski (The Vixen Chronicles) will keep readers entertained, whether they want children, have children, or want nothing to do with children. Dymalski's witty remarks and sarcastic retorts prove to be the perfect way for her to chart the trials, tribulations, and joys of raising two boys after 36 years of childless freedom. Dymalski shares the ways in which her life changed with motherhood and describes how the brutal reality of parenting is very different from preconceived ideas about having children. Full of hilarious and memorable moments and including chapters titled "The Art of Using Scissors (Blood and Gore, Part 1)," "Working Off Fat Season," "Mom Jeans," and "Excuse Me, I Volunteered for What?" Dymalski's book will engage readers cover to cover."

More About the Author

Author Stacy Dymalski is a former stand-up comic, who gave up a lucrative career and fabulous life to raise two musically inclined boys...in Utah...and she's not even Mormon. (Can you almost see how the jokes just write themselves in this case?) In between carpools and volunteering for important things she doesn't have time for, she writes books, and blogs about the lighter side of parenting, and life in general, on her award-winning and popular blog FROM NONSENSE TO MOMSENSE (www.NonsenseToMomsense.com). She's also the director and co-writer of the feature film JUPITER LANDING (available on Netflix) and writer/director of the Internet comedy series HAGNET (watch it YouTube).

In 2009 Stacy collaborated with Brandy Pinkerman Janke to write Ms. Janke's humorously poignant memoir THE VIXEN CHRONICLES, DUI: DATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE (OF SOME VERY BAD MEN). Think of it as a SEX IN THE CITY, but in Lubbock, Texas. Yes, it's that funny (and honestly gritty from a young woman's point of view).

Her newest book, CONFESSIONS OF A BAND GEEK MOM, is a hilarious account of what it's like to trade in Prada bags for diaper bags to stay home and raise kids who love noisy chaos (don't they all?). The book is all about modern-day parenting when you're out of your element. A must-read for any mom or dad who feels like they're bumbling around in the dark. (Guess what? We all are.)

Today Stacy is an award winning speaker, and as such has won several Toastmasters awards including various levels of the International Speech Competition and going all the way to the top level in the Humorous speech competition. So if you're looking for a engaging speaker for your next event, contact Stacy by going to her website at: www.StacyDymalski.com.

Currently Stacy resides in Park City, UT, with her two teenage sons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put Down December 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is hard to put down. The chapters are short and each tempts you to turn over the page and continue to the next. Stacy is a stand up comedienne and the style of stand up comes through in the writing. There are some hilarious chapters describing incidents such as buying jeans, which will have you laughing out loud. Whilst the book is an engagingly funny account of bringing up two sons it is also at times startlingly perceptive about the pressures of parenthood today.

This is an awesome, well-written, book by an uncannily clever observer of life. I enjoyed every story and what's more remarkable, Dymalski had me reviewing my own life experiences through her lens of wonder and humor. Too much in life passes us by without notice. Embrace your own true-life confessions and lighten-up. This book will help get you started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, poignant and relevant November 18, 2012

As a junior high school English teacher, I find Dymalski's book highly relevant. Hilarious and poignant, Dymalski showed me what parents think. I actually read it in class during DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. It was fantastic because my students saw me laughing while reading. I shared parts of it with them. This book is interactive and shows children why we read. . .Dymalski's writing connects to her audience.

Funny take on the modern mom experience. I am a "band geek mom" myself and so the title intrigued me. Stacy's comedic view of her sons and raising kids is a fun read.

I found this book hilarious and real. I'm not a Band Geek Mom, just a regular, boring mom but I completely related to Stacy's adventures. Hoping to see more from this author.
