Confession: I loved this book!,
By
This review is from: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend (Paperback)
Chalk up another point for Red Dress Ink! Ever since being introduced to this new line of books, I will admit to being addicted. And while they are mostly predicable and breezy reads, sometimes you get one that is surprising and deep. Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend is one of the latter.Meet Emma Carter, Ex-Girlfriend Extraordinaire. After being dumped by her boyfriend of two years, Emma suddenly finds herself smack-dab in the middle of Single Girl-dom. And for a girl who hasn't been single for quite awhile, for a girl who thought she'd be married by now, Single Girl-dom is no place to be! But with the help of her two best friends, Jade and Alyssa, her job as contributing editor at Bridal Best magazine, and the preoccupation with her mother's forthcoming wedding, somehow, someway Emma will make it to the other side. Or will she....? I rank this book up with my other favorite Red Dress Ink book, Dating Without Novocaine. Both were surprisingly thoughtful, deeper-meaning reads. However, Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend did not clue me in on anything -- I had no idea where it was leading. Would Emma find a new boyfriend? Would she get back together with Derrick? Would she stay single and enjoy her new-found self? I loved not knowing the outcome, which made this novel a bit different from the rest. Highly recommended for all chick lit lovers.

Disappointing,

I was in the mood for "chick lit" when I picked this book up, so was predisposed to enjoy it. But although it had amusing moments, I was fairly bored throughout. None of the characters are really defined, and the main character is derivative of far too many other books, television shows and movies. There are better "Bridget Jones" ripoffs out there.

Confession: Curnyn's Writing Style is Addictive!,
By "redridinghead" (COLUMBUS, OHIO United States) - See all my reviews

This book was a fantastic read! Not only was I sincerely interested in seeing Emma get over her stagnant relationship with Derrick, the beau who ditched his cozy life with her so nonchalantly, but I was in stitches from her wit and charm. Lynda Curnyn did a fabulous job taking us through Emma's journey-one to which many of us can relate-of a sassy & single woman who's just floating through life with a job (and lifestyle?) that is only half of what it could be to a life that has so much more promise. The modern day heroine, Emma, is so easy to love and it's impossible NOT to route for her. I found myself cheering out-loud for her during her moments of clarity and gusto. You will WANT to see her get out of her funk and take those scary and daring steps towards the life she really wants to live! I emphatically recommend this book! This might be my favorite RED DRESS INK publishing yet!

I confess: I liked it.,

This review is from: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend (Paperback)
Lynda Curnyn's first novel is a wry look at breaking up over thirty, but you don't even need to be near that milestone to feel Emma's pain. She goes through every stage of the grieving process in a way that's painfully honest (and somewhat embarassing for those of us who've been there before). Though at times a little cliched, Emma's struggles are portrayed in a totally relatable and comical way.All in all, a good book. But Curnyn's second effort, ENGAGING MEN, is much better.

Come on Ladies!!! Haven't we all been there at one time or another??? Confessions of an ex-Girlfriend takes the world of "Coupledom-to-Newly Single" to a refreshing and hilarious new level!Emma Carter is a 30 something Bridal Best editor who becomes single after her two year relationship comes to a halt. Emma loses it, and is driving her two best friends, Alyssa and Jade, crazy! Stuck with "10 pounds of extra relationship flab", Emma realizes that she has to face the truth about being single...and maybe there is more to her than being in a relationship! Along with Emma's "breakdown", her mother is getting remarried....AGAIN, her father falls off the wagon.....AGAIN, her hairdresser found God, and her friends are having their own captivating adventures as well! This NYC page-turner will have you laughing out loud! It will bring you up when you're down, and bring you back to reality when you are in that euphoric state of "Coupledom"!

With so many good books out there...,

This review is from: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend (Paperback)
...don't waste your time with this one.The writing is unforgivably mediocre, the plot is painfully predictable and the characters make you roll your eyes in irritation. I'm sure the author wants this life she has created on paper, and hopefully she'll get it one day. But in the meantime I truly hope she'll just stop asking the reading public to suffer through her fictional wishings. There are many well-written and funny and smart books out there (try "It's My F#cking Birthday" by Markoe, "Her" by Zigman, or anything by Eleanor Lipman). Search around to find one that won't be as disappointing.

I really enjoyed this book. I think it's a great story for all the single women out there who just want to relate to other single women. It was easy to get through in a couple of days & it kept my interest to the point that I would actually enjoy reading it again sometime. I would recommend it to anyone out there who just wants to curl up at home with a fun easy read!

I really enjoyed "Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend." A friend suggested I read it -- I was going thru a recent breakup of my own -- and the book truly captures the ups and downs of getting over someone and getting on with life. I thought it was extremely well-written, insightful, smart, funny and inspiring. The writer creates well-rounded, fully developed characters who you truly feel for. I liked how she held nothing back, romantic foibles and all. Truly enjoyable and inspiring!!!! Five stars!

Dullsville,
By
This review is from: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend (Paperback)
If this book was a city, I would name it Dullsville. Being in the same position as Emma, dating again after a breakup from a long term relationship I felt insulted. I expected to find a kindred spirit in the character and all I found myself doing was asking, "Is this over yet?". The book is extremely monotonous and the plot is very dull except for little parts here and there that might redeem it if they weren't so few and in between. The ending was good, the last 50 pages had the most action in them compared to the rest of the book. I just kept reading thinking that something has got to happen but nothing much ever came. I love reading and I almost felt that this book was a waste of my time. But not my money, thankfully I picked it up cheap at a garage sale and now I'm donating it to the library where some other person will be tortured with the boringness of this book. This is the first book from this author that I've read and sadly it is also the last.

The title is misleading,
This review is from: Confessions of an Ex-Girlfriend (Paperback)
Though the book was very interesting the title was rather misleading. Its a fun quirky read that at times makes you laugh out loud but the title and cover made me think it was going to be a little more provacative then it was. It is fun, I just expected a little more scandal from it.
