About the Author

J.T. Kirk has held hiring manager positions for Fortune 500 companies while serving in technical, marketing, and communications capacities. After receiving his B.S. degree in geology, he worked as a geological oceanographer and was an adjunct faculty lecturer with the University of Houston Department of Natural Science and Mathematics where he taught undergraduate courses. After leaving the oil industry in 1986, his transition to the technology sector took him into the software engineering and microprocessor design fields where he held various positions in marketing and technical communications. Over the course of his 25-plus year career, Kirk has reviewed more than a thousand résumés and cover letters and interviewed hundreds of candidates for positions in the earth sciences, software engineering, microprocessor design, marketing, and technical communications. Today, Kirk writes books on job and career strategies as well as classical guitar topics, and speaks at conferences, college campuses, military installations, trade and business schools, and professional associations on creating and managing effective job and career strategies based on his extensive experience and successful career as a hiring manager in various disciplines and industries.
