When Wax Trax took over the 80s with their lineups of unique styles and antiauthoritarian messages, the world seemed to change for me. I was still young and learning about music at the time, and I really hadn't had a chance to become set in any type of "style." I really hadn't really experienced much of what life had to offer at all, only getting the backside of my parent's music, some disco, and the big 80s, so I was still impressionable. I'd actually only heard select stylings of sounds then, finding a lot of what music and the thought behind it to be lacking, and that's why the types of sounds then, possibly the forefathers to what we call industrial and EBM music, sat with me so well. KMFDM, Sister Machine Gun, Machines of Loving Grace; these were all names that sprang from that launchboard. And, along with those that would become staples in the industry, was a powerhouse going by the name of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.My Life With The Kill Kult is hard to truly describe as a sound because they've done a little bit of everything while "coming into their own." From capturing the sounds of "greasers" and "go-go dancing" to hitting themes of sexploitation and BDSM, they seemed to become a staple that fit themselves in everywhere. They'd simply take their vocal distortion, set up their industrial setup and its gritty sound that they were expert with, and they'd nail whatever they tried for. Along with The Bomb Gang Girls, they constructed moments to fit so many a taboo occasion. But, on Confessions of a Knife, they really outdid themselves. The themes on the album were monumental when this came out and, listening to it again while I'm reviewing it, I still find it a piece of pure genius. It begins with "A Daisy Chain For Satan," a little song about drugs and the wonder that they (and especially acid) are, hyping them quite a bit. I get the loop "I live for drugs. They're Great." stuck in my head all the time, and its because this of this single. That, and "I'm the white rabbit" is something I catch my friends and I saying when we hear this for days to come. Moving on to the semi anti-religious song "The Day of Swine and Roses," you equally have something embraceable in its ability to be offensive and catchy. Kicking a little chanting, some clips, keyboards, and drum machines around, it starts throwing around some "Christian zombie vampires" as a chorus and has a little fun while our lead proclaims himself the "father of nothing" over and over again. O yeah, it's great. "Waiting for Mommie" is also a pretty entertaining song, working almost like a flashback in a bottle to the early 80s. It sounds a lot like early synthesizer work that was done then, mimicking those early rap beats touted at in the beginning - only this songs dirty. You can imagine what that means. "Kooler than Jesus" is also another track I absolutely adore, the theme easily translated from the name and the beat easily a contagion. I oftentimes catch myself singing along with it, humming the loop "I am the messiah, the AC/DC God" quite often. That's really good stuff. And, on top of those beautiful works, there's "Hand in Hand," "Ride the Midway," "Burning Dirt," and the ever-lovely "Do you Fear." And that leaves out the theme of the album coming in three parts; the building "Confessions of a Knife" - and that's a ballad worth singing. While the beats might be considered aged in a few places, this album is a classic in so many respects and has gone the way of many fine vintages. Not only is it worth listening to because of the timeframe and the musical movements at the time, but its also great because My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult is worth obtaining in almost all of its forms. Even when they're goofing off with songs their beats are addictive, the songs electric, and their message promoted without worrying about stepping on toes. It comes highly touted.

Even though I owned their debut first, "A Daisy Chain For Satan" was the first song I ever heard from them, and I instantly wanted to hear more. Musically this is a great techno/industrial album, but lyrically it's very dark. Sex, drugs, and Satan. Some of the tracks are very upbeat and aggressive, while others are almost hypnotic, especially in the right state of mind. The albums "I See Good Spirits and I See Bad Spirits" and "Sexplosion" are excellent as well, but I think this one is probably even more essential. It's a good combination of all things "TKK". Plus it's now remastered with extra tracks. I'll never get rid of my vinyl though.

Father of Nothing,

This album is amazing, very dark, gothic-esq, but still includes their seventies/funk/devil disco feel, which you have to love, something nobody has ever done better, or even came close to their style. "Days of Swine and Roses," is a classic track, with its quintessential gothic/dance melodic beat and disturbing lyrics.."Christian Zomibe Vampires.....I am the father of nothing, the father of blood" Kooler then Jesus is an amazing track, c'mon it's already called 'Kooler then Jesus," you can't beat that. The track was originally from a previously released 12inch, very good dancy track. Rind the Mindway is yet another good track, so is the disturbing Waiting for Mommie, as is Burning Dirt, hell this whole album is perfection. I would say this is their best if not their best album, basically because I feel partial to "Cuz it's hot," &"Daisy Chain for Satan," is actually at the end of cuz it's hot," on the single. This is a must album for this genre of music, and basically for any serious music lover. I got through high school with this album, maybe that makes me sound sick, but it was my savior...smiles I danced many a night to this track at clubs and parties when this was big, or with my group of friend's years ago. Now I'm an old man (29)...but listening to this brings back memories. Ok go now and buy it!

The TKK is probably the koolest band ever. Not really heavy nor soft music. Just despicable in their own way. So sleazy and evil that they're just fantastic. I can still pull this album out and listen to A Daisy Chain for Satan and never get tired of it. Not since 1990 has this album gotten boring or dated. These poor kids nowadays just don't know good music. They go on and on about crap like 'Sugar Ray' or 'Hootie blew my fish' and it just makes me want to vomit. At least there's good music like this for geezers like me, you know people in their mid to late twenties.

Their absolute Best,
This review is from: Confessions of a Knife (Audio CD)
This was the defining album by TKK for me. The two songs that got me hooked, Kooler than Jesus and A Daisy Chain for Satan are on this CD. The combination of evil and electronic sounds is at times bordering on the genius of the insane. The sound of this album is amazing and will forever be one of my favorites. It was the last album before they started to lose the edge to their sound and add in more disco and glam sounds.

No other TKK cds can measure up to the awesome beats and lyrics of this cd. I own fourteen TKK cds and this is byfar the one that gets played the most (although I love them all). Alot of the lyrics on this cd I end up singing in my head. Everything about this cd is just so catchy that after listining it I can't get the sounds out of my head.

TKK's Best Album by Far......,

This review is from: Confessions of a Knife (Audio CD)
This is one only of 2 albums I've had to buy a second copy of because I had worn out the first. It's that good.TKK has something of a unique sound. They blend industrial with house/disco. This is probably their most industrial sounding album, but it's also still very dancey, not like true industrial. All songs on this are great. Kooler than Jesus is probably their most popular, or at least the one heard in clubs the most "I'm the electric messiah....the AC/DC god.", but it's probably the worst song on the album.

This album is as good as it gets when it comes to insanity-induced, crazed electronic music... The Thrill Kill Kult is the one & only, and this is easily their best album.
