Secrets in this cautionary tale. Flowing seemlessly between drama and awareness, Harold Turley has written a deep, candid story about the repercussions that come with "The monster." From the inception at the funearl to its powerful conclusion, I was held captive in an emotional way. HIV/AIDS is nothing to play with, and without giving away the plot... You just have to...

This review is from: Confessions of a Lonely Soul (Paperback)
Harold Turley's newest offering, Confessions Of A Lonely Soul starts at the funeral of DeMarco Reid. DeMarco left a videotape for all of his family and friends to watch at his funeral. On the videotape is the story of what led to the deaths of Lia, his wife, and himself. The story starts with DeMarco explaining the relationship problems between he and his wife. His wife (Lia) believes that he is spending more time at his job than he is spending with her. After his wife is stood up by DeMarco she chooses to do something that will change both of their lives forever. The choices that he and his wife make are only the start of their lives spiraling out of control.

Mr. Turley provides a fictional story with HIV, AIDS and depression awareness information for readers to apply to their own lives. This story had plenty of drama and memorable characters. There were times where I found myself going back to the previous chapters to figure out if I had missed something. The author at times would jump to another subject in the chapter without notice to the reader. I felt at times that the author may have rushed some of the subjects to get to the ending. With caution, I recommend this novel to readers looking for a quick read.

This is, thus far, the best book I have read in 2007!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dead Speak, August 3, 2007

This review is from: Confessions of a Lonely Soul (Paperback)
Harold Turley's newest work, CONFESSIONS OF A LONELY SOUL is a captivating novel that tells the story of DeMarco Reid's life. However, Marco tells his story in a way unlike any other I've seen before. As his family and friends gather to pay their last respects, his videotaped confessions begin to play, revealing secrets that were meant to be taken to the grave.

DeMarco and his wife Lia are going through turbulent times in their marriage when she decides to get revenge for Marco's broken promises. Ultimately, this revenge will affect both of them for the rest of their lives because Lia soon finds she is ill. Once Lia is diagnosed, her life becomes a roller coaster ride she is not prepared for and eventually decides she must get off. As a result, she leaves Marco behind to deal with the guilt, pain, and stress of her death and the fact that he too is sick. Still, Marco is determined not to give up and decides to use comedy as a way of educating people about HIV and AIDS. He's also determined to see that justice is served for what has happened to his family.

Told through the first person point of view, CONFESSIONS OF A LONELY SOUL is part mystery, part fiction, part motivational and also educational. Harold L. Turley II touches on issues important to society such as AIDS, HIV and depression, but does so without being preachy or in your face. Instead, Turley creates characters who become real and shows, through their actions, the consequences he is warning the reader about. The plot is well-developed and will keep you interested throughout the novel. You'll feel sad for the characters at times, but there are also moments that will make you laugh too. Overall, Turley has written a great story that will leave you thinking and looking forward to more.

This review is from: Confessions of a Lonely Soul (Paperback)
Confesions of a Lonely Soul by Harold L. Turley II is a captivating story from the first Chapter. DeMarco Reid shares his life, love and guilt within the pages. Not only is this a great read,it's refreshing and live! It's beautiful hearing a man's admission of fault in the war of love. DeMarco did what some men couldn't! It was a beautiful articulated declaration of love. Outstanding, literary appeal! Mr. Turley, gave suspense and phenomenal feel with just 190 great pages of excellence.

5.0 out of 5 stars The End of it's Course, June 4, 2007
This review is from: Confessions of a Lonely Soul (Paperback)
CONFESSIONS OF A LONELY SOUL opens at the end of DeMarco Reid's life. Instead of the run of the mill eulogy, DeMarco decides to provide his family and friends with a videotape that not only rewinds time and shines light on pieces of his life, but shocking confessions...

HIV positive, murder suspects with a baby on the way, Kalia and DeMarco have their hands full. Instead of relying on their family to support them through this difficult time, they rely solely on one another. DeMarco is confident that they still have a full life ahead of them, but Kalia finds it a little harder to cope and falls into a deep depression.

While I've never read anything written by Harold L. Turley II, CONFESSIONS OF A LONELY SOUL is energizing and very educational. While confronting the challenges of a marriage, Harold adds infidelity, HIV, pregnancy, depression, murder, politics, comedy and sex to spice the 190 pages up just right. If that weren't enough to enlighten readers, he makes it clear that someone is not happy with DeMarco's tell-all and begins their own investigation. Everyone knows that there's always three parts to every story. I can't wait to read more from Harold L. Turley II and soon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Would You Really Be This Understanding?, December 31, 2008
This review is from: Confessions of a Lonely Soul (Paperback)
This story starts out very promising with the video confession at the funeral of DeMarco, who tell his family and friends why his wife Kalia committed suicide and why he committed murder.
Throughout the story DeMarco and his wife remain very lovey dovey, until she decides to commit suicide, which was puzzling since she did not give new life a chance after she was so careless!
After the initial first few chapters the storyline starts to fizzle, mainly because of the authors inconsistent writing style and the many grammatical errors through out the story.
The most exciting character, that stayed true throughout the book was DeMarco's brother.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. I could not put it down. It's a quick read also. It's important to know your status. I think after reading this book, it would give people a different look on this deadly disease and how it's important to get tested.
