This book was recommended by the friend of a friend of the writer. I found it hard to believe that this is a first novel! I was amazed at the intricasies of the story and the depth of the character. While I am not a fan of mobster style books this one wasn't like your typical mob story. I had a hard time putting this book down to go to bed. I can't sing this books praises enough! I hope that Mr. Porter is planning on writing another book, I would gladly purchase it.

This book grabbed me from page one and didn't let go until the last. I am not typically drawn to "mobster books", but to call this a mere gangster novel would be selling it short. Mr. Porter has created an amazing, yet amazingly believeable cast of characters who draw the reader in and make you love them, hate them, root for them, bleed for them, cry with and for them through every page. The artful construction of the characters, the places and their lives makes the reader feel as though you are part of this family and living life along with them. This was and is an amazing novel and I will be recommending it to all my family and friends! If you are looking to read a book that proves that the art of intelligent, thought-provoking literature is not dead, THIS IS IT! I anxiously await Mr. Porter's next contribution to the literary world.

This book has absolutely something for everyone...intrigue, history, love and action! The words come together beautifully and create vivid pictures as you get deeper and deeper into the story. The character of Riley is so perfectly developed and where I thought I might have had an inkling of where the story was going, I was fabulously surprised! Not many authors are able to pull this off today and Porter has done so in this tremendously crafted novel!

Confessions of the Meek and Valiant by Steven R. Porter keeps your attention and keeps you thinking about how the story fits together. The ending makes sense but was not at all what I predicted. In addition to the strong storyline, the writing itself is excellent. It draws you into what is happening by making the characters seem very real. Porter also does a superb job of describing the real and fictional places in the story.
