5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
I just read Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon and thought it was a great book. It gives you a real insight of what a plastic surgeon goes through behind the scenes from day-to-day. Some of the patient stories were funny. The one about the man who wanted breasts on his back so his lover would have something to hold onto had me hysterical. I think this book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Light, fluffy, enjoyable read
No one is ever going to mistake this for great literature or even a well-done memoir. Dr. Lesesne flits superficially from anecdote to anecdote and boasts irritatingly frequently of his accomplishments, his credentials, his skills, his big heart and his dates with a string of fabulous women. No one is ever going to mistake this for great literature or even a well-done memoir. Dr. Lesesne flits superficially from anecdote to anecdote and boasts irritatingly frequently of his accomplishments, his credentials, his skills, his big heart and his dates with a string of fabulous women. But I took the book for what it was: A breathless peek into a world most of us will never glimpse. If everything Dr. Lesesne writes is true, then he's had a most extraordinary life indeed, and his experiences alone are captivating enough to keep the interest up. You also learn a lot about the science and psychology of plastic surgery, which I find interesting from a scientific perspective. Written like a long magazine article, the book can be read in one afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, November 28, 2005

I just read Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon and thought it was a great book. It gives you a real insight of what a plastic surgeon goes through behind the scenes from day-to-day. Some of the patient stories were funny. The one about the man who wanted breasts on his back so his lover would have something to hold onto had me hysterical. I think this book is very informative for anyone thinking of having plastic surgery. You read about the roads that Dr. Lesesne traveled to get where he is today. I would recommend this book to everyone.

On a personal level, I had breast reduction surgery performed by Dr. Lesesne in November of 2005. I put off having surgery for over 10 years because I was so scared. Dr. Lesesne came highly recommended to me by my boss. After meeting Dr. Lesesne and seeing what a great doctor he is, I knew he was the right doctor to do my surgery. The results are wonderful. My back and neck pain is all but gone. It has definitely changed the way I look at myself. If it were not for Dr. Lesesne I would never have had the courage to go through with the surgery.

After reading this book and having had surgery with Dr. Lesesne I can tell you that he is a sincere, honest, nice man and a brilliant surgeon. Read the book!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Info, November 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A very informative book of plastic surgery from the perspective of a well educated Park Avenue plastic surgeon. A quick set-up of his early years is highlighted by a very informative discussion of his life in med school, the decisions required and the dedicated teachers that made him a great surgeon. This may be the most compelling part of the book.

Then after a difficult start he gains traction and eventually is a surgeon to stars and royalty as well as dating Katie Couric with a celebrity education of the process.

What this book really shows is the mental aspect of being a plastic surgeon as well as many tips such as how to pick an appropriate surgeon. His writing style leads to complete confidence that this man knows what he is doing as he describes procedures and a thought process unknown to a layman. Be forewarned, if you are reading this for a celebrity fix, it's not here. Yes, he mentions many consultations with the rich and famous but in keeping with his profession and morals, no names are given.

Overall, this is an exceptional, fast read on a subject of which I had no knowledge and which I found immensely enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting, April 11, 2008
This review is from: Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon (Hardcover)
This was so interesting; NOT your typical plastic surgery book. Very insightful.

I wished he'd name names (it drove me nuts guessing!) but of course he can't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read for anyone, any age, April 9, 2008
I read the book after my mother recommended it to me. It was fun and exciting and gave good advice on anyone who has ever gave some thought to plastic surgery. My mother is a patient of his and had a face lift done about a year ago and looks more beautiful than ever. It shows you that nobody is perfect and everyone is selfconscious, no matter what your rank in society is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Read this only if you are a plastic surgery industry supporter, January 17, 2008
This review is from: Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon (Hardcover)
Like it says in the title of my review - you will probably only enjoy this book if you have had plastic surgery, are contemplating plastic surgery, or are just a general supporter of people who have plastic surgery. If you are not one of those people (like me), this book will be mostly an annoyance. I was really hoping this book would be an interesting look at plastic surgery - who gets it and why. Instead, there is a LOT of information about his background and education. Also - the man is a doctor, and narcissism seems inherent in that profession. We have to read a lot about all the royalty he's worked on, the celebrities, and other richy riches. We have to read a lot about how he is asked to do surgery on people around the globe because he comes so highly recommended. We have to read about how he flies to L.A. once every two months to work on people in the entertainment industry because he is in such high demand. Finally, and perhaps most annoyingly, we have to read about how he sizes up nearly every single person he looks at to see how he can "improve" them. If you don't believe me - read the other reviews of this book. He did it to someone who wrote a review here. Narcissism at it's finest. It was tough to stomach.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are there enough hours in the day to do all this?, February 22, 2006
Must be, or he wouldn't have been able to write about it.

It's an entertaining look at a serious topic, and although he appears to be extremely private, he does touch on his one marriage (brief, childless, and disastrous) and its role in the demise of a short romance he had with none other than Katie Couric. He's also performed surgery in a number of foreign countries, on many famous and/or wealthy people. There is also a sidebar about his work with children at a long-term care facility in the region.

Since he works in New York City, he describes his role in the aftermath of 9/11 - a day whose morning I spent in a plastic surgeon's office! But I wasn't having a cosmetic procedure; I had a cyst removed from my scalp.

p.s. His real name is Carroll.

4.0 out of 5 stars confessions of a park avenue plastic surgeon, March 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
very good because very human.not very instructive.if you are looking for tips and tricks, you will be disappointed.it is overall how a surgeon feels empathy for his patients but it also shows the shallow side of that fake fight against time.leaves you a little bit sad.but one question:what would the surgeon think if ugly, fat and old were the new criterias of success???????????

5.0 out of 5 stars Praise for Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon, November 28, 2005
By
I went to a plastic surgeon in New York City for my liposuction and then read Dr. Lesesne's book. After reading Confessions of a Park Avenue Plastic surgeon, I've decided to book my next procedure with Dr. Lesesne. Clearly, Dr. Lesesne is one of New York's top plastic surgeons and a true expert in his field. His book was very endearing and forthcoming and really helped clarify what to expect before undergoing any procedure. I'd recommend this book to those considering any type of plastic surgery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius or Genie, October 11, 2005
By
Florida Fan (Naples, Florida) - See all my reviews
Dr Lesesne's book is astonishing and sweet. He whisks you around the globe to meet his glamorous and powerful patients then back home with him, as a boy, aspiring to emulate his Father's noble hometown practice. Who knew a midwestern bookworm could grant the wishes we all desire... to look on the outside the way we know we are on the inside, certainly not him . Can it be that those of position and power deep-down are just like you and me? Well Dr Lesesne does a great job uncovering the answer while making you laugh out loud at his patients antics. Genius or genie, Dr. Lesesne's book is wildly entertaining and at the same time insightful and educational. Want to know if plastic surgery could be for you? read the book.

Want to know how I know? Cap and my big brother went to prep school and college together. He told me years ago I could be happier about my nose, it took 25 years to make an appointment at his Park Avenue office. A day after the surgery I looked in the mirror and saw the person I'd always wanted to see. Until reading his book I had no idea the calibre of patients ,who looking in that same mirror, shared my delight and gratitude...he never breathed a word.
