I'm "late" with this review because I've been applying Miranda's techniques to my own writing. (It's working!) I enjoyed her refreshingly frank & honest insights into the glamorous life of a rock-star blogger.

It turns out that the life isn't so glamorous, but it can certainly support your self-employment and financial independence. She's one of the most prolific professional bloggers I know (over 25,000 Google search results) and a tremendously efficient writer.

After the book's introduction, in 10 quick chapters she takes you through the process and the mechanics of turning your writing skills into a career. She paints a very realistic picture of the type of writing that you'll do for money, as well as how to do more of what you love. She prefers to write for others, although she discusses ways to turn a profit from your own blog. You'll learn how to network with other freelancers and bloggers and how to gain steady customers. You'll find tactics to add your own unique spin on topics that have already been written about thousands of times. You'll determine how to set your rates, how much time to spend on a project, and how to delegate the chores you don't enjoy. You'll even learn how to manage your working hours and your cashflow.

Miranda didn't just write about these concepts-- she put them into action with a unique IndieGoGo campaign that raised the money for her to write and market the book. (I contributed to her campaign to get my copy.) She not only self-published the book, but she even managed to create her own publisher's advance.

Read it for the tactics and the tips, or read it for the inspiration-- but it's worth the read and you'll quickly recoup the cost.

There probably isn't anything new in this book, like most others, but it will likely help motivate you to revisit how you're doing stuff.

Worked for me, and it was pretty cheap!

More About the Author

I've always enjoyed writing, but never really thought about making it my career until I worked in Classifieds for a local paper. I went off to Syracuse University and earned a M.A. in Journalism, then settled down to earn a few bucks a month to help with rent while my husband worked on his Ph.D.

Little did I know that my little online blurbs would evolve into a full-on business.

Now I'm a professional blogger and freelance writer. I'm the primary breadwinner, and some days I don't get out of my pajamas until lunch. I can work from anywhere -- which is great, because I love to travel.

When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, reading fantasy and science fiction, and playing in the outdoors.

My blog is PlantingMoneySeeds.com.
