About the Author
Earl Stewart is the owner of Earl Stewart Toyota in North Palm Beach, Florida, and a consumer advocate who shares his knowledge about the car industry through a weekly newspaper column and radio show. A native Floridian, Earl was a reluctant car dealer and initially avoided joining his father in the Pontiac dealership the family opened in 1937. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and a master s degree in industrial administration from Purdue University, Earl worked as an electronics engineer for four years for Westinghouse Corp. He joined his father and older brother in the car business in 1968 and helped establish the first Mazda dealership in the eastern United States in 1970. In 1975, the Stewarts secured their Toyota franchise and the dealership, now known as Earl Stewart Toyota, has become one of the most successful Toyota stores in the nation. Earl has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Business Week, and other publications. He has made numerous appearances on CNN, Fox News and other news programs. He is frequently called upon by local and national media to comment on trends in the industry, as well as on his innovative and unorthodox approach to operating an automotive dealership.
