About the Author

Earl Stewart is the owner of Earl Stewart Toyota in North Palm Beach, Florida, and a consumer advocate who shares his knowledge about the car industry through a weekly newspaper column and radio show. A native Floridian, Earl was a reluctant car dealer and initially avoided joining his father in the Pontiac dealership the family opened in 1937. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and a master s degree in industrial administration from Purdue University, Earl worked as an electronics engineer for four years for Westinghouse Corp. He joined his father and older brother in the car business in 1968 and helped establish the first Mazda dealership in the eastern United States in 1970. In 1975, the Stewarts secured their Toyota franchise and the dealership, now known as Earl Stewart Toyota, has become one of the most successful Toyota stores in the nation. Earl has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Business Week, and other publications. He has made numerous appearances on CNN, Fox News and other news programs. He is frequently called upon by local and national media to comment on trends in the industry, as well as on his innovative and unorthodox approach to operating an automotive dealership.

I was recently in the market for a new car and a friend suggested I read this book first. So glad I did...I went to my local dealership armed with all of the information I needed to get a fair price on my car and handled all of the negotiations like I knew the insides of the car business! The sales manager was impressed with my savvy and treated me with the utmost respect.

This book is a must read for any any first time car buyer as well as all the seasoned buyers who "think" they know the ropes. An absolute must read!!

Thank you Mr. Stewart for the great deal I got on my new Maxima

Julie

Easy read and very informative. Clearly written from the heart and surprisingly candid considering its written by a dealer who is still actively involved in the retail auto industry. He is indeed a source of irritation by the dealers in his market and has passionately pursued making dealer fees (and other deceptive practices) illegal in his state of Florida. While a passionate advocate for consumers he is a very smart business man as his business and profits have grown along with his increased transparency. I visited his dealership and was shocked to see his personal cell phone number posted every where. Incredibly though the owner of a high volume Toyota dealership the number is legitimate!

He makes no apologies about making a good living but sincerely seems equally as interested in making a difference. I am impressed with his book and his operation.

Great inside information. Will definitely use this when buying my next car. It's a series of articles so there is some repeat information in the chapters but overall worth a read.
