Book Description

November 1, 1999
A limited signed first edition of the testimony and learning of negligent driving leading to road rage that can be overcome through awareness and faith, covered in nine chapters and seven supplements. Written mostly from a biographical viewpoint of a negligent driver who confessed and testified of undesirable driving situations that led to a subsequent, deep self-evaluation and reform. Includes second- and third-person narratives that discuss various general automobile topics. Referenced and illustrated. This book can be read as a tutorial or be used as a quick-reference guide to physiological and psychological causes of all kinds of bad driving. The underlying theme is that of the inescapable influences of both good and evil spiritual forces, while remaining non-prejudicial and non-condescending.

Sometimes, there is more to driving than just meets the eye. Never before has a formerly negligent and reckless driver come forth with valid testimony about the negative, hellish feelings and consequences of driving like a maniac. Mr. McGinley gives credible explanations as to the dangers of risky driving and the benefits of hypocrisy awareness, and how such an awareness is also an integral part of the Christian faith. Not preachy, not a sunshine lecture, just the straight facts from an ordinary citizen sharing how his previously undesirable actions behind the wheel caused more anguish than was thought possible. No other book about driving covers important topics as they are related to driving and Christian principles in such relevant detail. Sometimes, it's what is not seen that matters the most.

This is M. D. McGinley's first published book and a Limited Signed First Edition. The print run was limited to only 200 copies. No other editions of this title exist, making it very rare and a true collectible. Each copy was signed in diminishing rarity as follows: black ink, approximately 120 copies (exact number of black signatures unknown); blue ink, approximately 47 copies (exact number of blue signatures unknown); red ink, 22 copies; green ink, 10 copies, and 1 copy of 200 signed by the author in purple ink, making the latter an ultra rare find, with only one copy in existence. What is more, Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior was printed by a printer who no longer manufactures perfect-bound books, adding even more value to your collection while at the same time offering the most effective, no-fluff and straight-forward testimony known about the negative consequences of bad driving. Acquire each of M. D. McGinley's Limited Signed First Editions, and don't stop until you get all three of his automotive books signed in purple ink. This is something not known to have been offered before by any author in history: a truly extraordinary opportunity to acquire an author's first, second and third limited signed first editions in one collection, with only one copy of each in existence signed in purple ink. Even if you manage to acquire the very rare green or red signatures, the search is just as much fun as the catch!

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Perhaps no other book today covers a topic so well that has negatively affected so many people and needlessly claimed human lives. This book has an unparalleled depth of detail that neither overexplains nor leaves out critical elements with regard to living in a society whose infrastructures are overly dependent on gasoline-powered vehicles.

The message of this book is not just about feeling better. It is about making needed and beneficial changes for the overall well-being of today's modern society, one person at a time--especially establishing priorities that will help save sanity, personal property and lives.

From the Author

Not only did I want to write "Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior," I felt that it was just something that needed to be done. It didn't really matter if I was the author or not. I simply did not see the exact book that I needed on bookshelves or libraries.

There are ways and things that many people do not or will not believe that are happening right now, and they're not always good. Aggressive driving and road rage are two things that I had given in to that I wish I hadn't. It seemed that driving in today's society had almost driven me to aggression, and this is only one part of what I call the hell from which I escaped.

Regardless of the apathy, indifference and bad driving that I have seen and have confirmed countless times by others and myself, I had to do my part to make sure that these shortcomings and evil forces don't spread to the people around me--whether behind the wheel or not.

It's easy for a psychologist to give advice from the comfort of the home or office, sipping a Latte and kicking back, but I was the driver who was THERE--in the middle of roadway battles, shouting matches and chases. For years I couldn't put my finger on it, but I finally tracked the beasts down and got the inside story.

I feel that "emotional intelligence" needs to give way to positive spirituality and common sense, and, for these reasons, "Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior" is an education in itself. And I didn't write it just for me.

More About the Author

Matthew McGinley was born October, 1961, in Seattle, Washington, a descendant of Gary McGinley, a skilled tradesman at Burlington Northern Railroad Company, who descended from William McGinley, a shipfitter and hull inspector for the United States Navy before, during and after World War II. Matthew attended Seattle Mechanics School while developing personal computer skills in the 1980's and beyond. Matthew then programmed, documented and marketed The Elite Personal Accountant in July 1985, a software home accounting database program. He also served in the U. S. Navy from 1986 to 1991 while earning four medals and his Liberal Arts degree. Mr. McGinley later published limited editions (200 copies each) of Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior (1999) and The Modern Driver: Practical Knowledge for Today's Motorists (2004).
Mr. McGinley still calls Seattle home, and drives frequently while continuing to investigate traffic engineering, automobile safety, driving psychology, philosophy and science. Mr. McGinley's future projects involve a children's book series, a book about the foodservice industry and works about religion and philosophy in a modern age.

5.0 out of 5 stars We really need it!, March 21, 2001
This review is from: Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior (Paperback)
This author has written a well put-together book, over all the chapters he has covered the topics very well. All the things he said in the book are true about the drivers I see today, I still see others driving crazy. It was easy to read. There are chapters about some psychology, some physical things and some that were spiritual. Matthew discusses a lot. I liked the history of it all, it is fascinating to read about. I only wished that people would realize about what's going on out there more. It took a lot of courage to admit what he did, like to follow people after they made him mad. This is well thought out. I was angry when someone got my copy! I would say to get your own copy and try to see what he's telling you. The bookmark in the back said he rushed through the editing to get done before the year 2000 so he apologized for "mistakes that have already been corrected." Then it said that was his whole point, to admit that he made mistakes and not to try and cover it up, like when some drivers don't admit they have a problem when they do. I got it after a bit. That was admirable. I'm looking forward to see the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teaches essential skills, November 12, 2002
This review is from: Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior (Paperback)
This book helped me to become much more aware of many issues relating to driving, including improving some of my skills, and also increasing my awareness of some of my own bad driving habits. But really, people who don't like the way I drive should just stay off the sidewalk.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breakthrough!, July 4, 2000
By
John (SEATTLE, too) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Reformed Road Warrior (Paperback)
I got this book out of curiosity, and found more than I'd planned. Apparantly, the author was a bad driver and then wrote this book as a sort of primer for other "bad" drivers to do the same. Specific driving events are narrated, none of them bloody, but the potential was there. I don't know why other reviews were so hyped about the so-called "religion," I only saw one chapter that was only a testimony. The eight main chapters have nothing to do with religion, only the author saying he did this, and such and such resulted. This book is classified as a biography so I guess this is where the author can say whatever he wants. It's amazing that this guy knows so much, yet had such a hard time, he confessed, dealing with other drivers who didn't care how they drove. So there's stuff in here that is more related about what not to do when driving than religion. I'm not a religious person myself, and I can see that is not the focus of McGinley's book, but that just to see how easy a simple drive can turn into an ordeal, a shouting match or worse. That's why i really got the book, I wanted to hear a formerly crazy driver tell me his side of the story. It had to do with people merely playing games while they drove because the rest of their lives {stunk.} The psychological chapter helped me. Chapter 5 tells me not to drink coffee and eat candy on an empty stomach, cause it'll go right to the rush centers in my brain. That and the test in the back make it more than my money's worth.
