Revelations of a Cheater,
By
This review is from: Confessions of a Sandbagger (Paperback)
Canadian author J. J. Gowland's "Confessions of a Sandbagger."
Here's the concept: A sandbagger gets tied to his golf bag and tossed in the pond up to his neck in front of the par 3 17th hole, and that's just for openers in J. J. Gowland's comic romp "Confessions of a Sandbagger." There may be no other character in golf fiction quite like Mikey Blaine, the sandbagger you'll like to hate, and maybe even hate that you end up liking a little. This is a quick and enjoyable read. Gowland definitely knows the game of golf; you find yourself nodding agreement over a variety of the elements, traits, and foibles of the game. I was quite taken with the Chapter 14 tips on sizing up your "opponents" skills just by what clubs are being carried in the bag. Good stuff, very perceptive, with some really fine writing; it moves right along and is often very funny. Robert Ronning Writing Instructor Pima College Tucson, Arizona

This review is from: Confessions of a Sandbagger (Paperback)
The author definitely knows golf and the protagonist, a sandbagger, in this easy to read novel is someone you can hate and then feel sorry for.
Sometimes hilarious, sometimes touching we learn how Mikey came to be tied to his golf bag and tossed in a pond and how perceptive he is in convincing other golfers in rescuing him before winter arrives. The golf tips are accurate. Copies if this funny easy to read novel make great tournament prize table items. Enjoy! |
