I can't remember when I have enjoyed a CD more than I enjoyed this one. Laughing out loud is so good for the soul and this did it for me! Not only does Alexander McCall Smith write wonderfully well, but his Confessions are witty, smart and hilarious.

5.0 out of 5 stars I put off buying this because of the price, but it was hilarious and well worth it, May 2, 2008

I didn't want to pay the asking price for this hour-long presentation, but I am such a fan of McCall Smith's and I am so glad I did.

This is a live speech that he gave, and the whole thing had me cracking up. He talks about other authors and speech-givers and silly things that he and they do and have done, and reads aloud a few very short portions of his books and talks about them in a really funny way. Really, it wasn't what he talked about, it was the simple fact of his storytelling ability - I was just howling with laughter through the whole thing.

I've never heard an author busting a gut reading his own work, but McCall Smith put an even funnier spin on one of the best parts of 44 Scotland Street by laughing through the entirety of it after delivering every line, and the whole thing was just great. My tummy was sore from giggling.

The cover of this short audio production really doesn't do it justice. It was completely hilarious and well worth the money. I'll certainly be listening to it again, as I think I laughed too loud the first time and missed a few parts!

In addition to being an extremely talented writer, Alexander McCall Smith is very funny in person. I found his lecture very entertaining.
