Brings back childhood memories,
By Curtis Gage (Wickliffe, Ohio U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Marna Leaks'Confessions of a Sister Out of Time is originally set in Columbus Ohio. Although the book has a deeper theme, I especially liked the childhood stories. For example, at the beginning of the book when Ramona Preston's parents went abroad, Aunt Maggie came to stay. The kids talked Aunt Maggie into taking them to the Ohio State Fair where they bought a pair of chameleons. Before long the chameleons are lost in the parent's bed. Being from Ohio, I've also seen the purchase of chameleons by unsuspecting patrons with some of the same disasterous results! I had to laugh out loud. The teenage years were just as hilarious.Leaks skillfully linked Ramona's life to Gerald Fizgerald who was a slave master in the 1800's. As a matter of fact, she linked nearly every character in the book to characters who lived in the pre-Civil War era. These links provide insight to the problems of the modern day circumstances. If you have a problem with this book, I suggest you read Journey Of Souls by Dr. Newton for backgound information.

New Look At Race Relations,
By Rick Pace (Atlanta, Georgia U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Confessions of a Sister Out of Time explores the idea that we all spend time as a member of the different human races. What a concept! Ramona Preston, a black woman, finds out that she was once a white slave master who negatively impacted the family of a person she loves today! Ramona is able to straighten out her life and find happiness. Will the rest of us be so lucky? I think this book is a "must read."

Inspiring,
By Dee (New York, N.Y. U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Confessions of a Sister Out of Time is a story about a young woman in love with a man, and enough in love with life to go through great measures to find out why things in her environment are dysfunctional. Ramona Preston loves her brother and his children, who have been brain washed by their mother to hate him. What Ramona finds out about herself, and who she was in a prior life would cause cognitive dissonance in most of us. A mystery unravels as she learns the connection between a past life in New Orleans, Louisiana and the life she leads today. Ramona Preston is in a hurry to find answers before her parents die. She is also "out of time" through reincarnation. The PROLOGUE says it all: "There's life and death and life and death And life and life you see. My soul lives on revolving waves, forever flowing free. So why won't we remember the sound, the beat the drum? The Guides, the lights the humming. The home were we are from? Must it take a mystic, to reach the other side, When each of us have memory, our conscious problems hide?" "There's life and life and life and life, We must learn to improve, Our weary days and wicked ways, Stop plotting to abuse. How can I show remorse for all the pain I've caused? How can I skip the karma of Universal Laws? I've got to find the secret of who I really am, There's no more time to linger, I'll find out if I can." "My brother needs his children. The children need the Truth. My parents need affection, derived from missing youth. One day I tricked my lover, who thought I was a friend. This lifetime he's devoted, to getting love's revenge. Too late to do it over, can't show myself as kind. A member of a family ... A Sister out of Time!"

My Best Book Club Story So Far,

I joined a book club that read Confessions of A Sister Out of Time. This book was my best experience in the club, because after the story was read and excited us all, we started discussing people and events in our own lives that may be the result of a prior life. My imagination is on fire! Ramona Preston, the main character in this story is a lucky woman, in spite of her problems, because she knows what life is all about.

A New Look at the Past and the Present,
By Ralph Grier (College Park. Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Confessions of a Sister Out of Time, by Marna Hale Leaks gives a new meaning to the past and the present. This story takes us into the life a black woman who fell deeply in love with a local high school basketball star. This cliff-hanger romance is the driving force, along with a missing neice and nephew, that leads to a spiritual city in the Hindu Kush mountains in Tibet. How the story unfolds is mind-blowing.

The Surprise Ending Will Make you Think,
By Dee (Cleveland, Ohio U.S.A.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Marna Leaks' Confessions of a Sister Out of Time has a main female character who is on a quest to find her missing nephew and niece, but instead learns about her own prior life as a man. All through the novel, I expected the missing niece and nephew to show up. The person she found at the end was a lost loved one from a prior life who was a total surprise. I've read four books reviewed by Ophrah's book club and neither were as meaningful as this one. This book should get more publicity.

Reincarnation May Be Real!,
By Caroline Friel (Philadelphia, Pa.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Marna Hale Leaks' Confessions Of A Sister Out of Time is a compelling story of how a woman learned of her past lives. This book holds serious implications for all of us. I wish the popular mediums paid more attention to subjects like those explored in this book. The main character, Ramona Preston was able to unravel her problems with a cliff-hanger romance, and various family issues through finding out who she really is.

Some of the Details are True!,
By Jason Honer (Shaker Heights, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
I heard Marna Leaks speak at a reading at Borders Bookstore. In her Confessions of a Sister Out of Time, the main character, Ramona Preston was the daughter of a minister in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stayed in their home on more than one occasion. When asked if this was information from her own life, Leaks admitted that it was and had family photos and MLK's signature in a guest book to prove it.Reading this novel helps me relate to my own mother who grew up in the 1960s. I liked the original poems that foreshadow each chapter. I haven't totally bought into the idea of reincarnation, but if there is such a thing as reincarnation, how could you explain it in another way? I thought the book was good.

I Couldn't Put it Down,
By Debra Liggins (Houston, Texas U.S.A.) - See all my reviews

I came across this book at an ECKANKAR bookstore. I needed some material to do a reading at a poetry reading on my college campus. I found the poems at the beginning of each chapter so good that I read four of them. The Prologue and "Its Your Turn to Cry" brought the house down. Afterwards, I read the entire book. I can relate to Ramona Preston because I recently broke up with my boyfriend and have come through a hard time getting over it. I plan to read it again!

Recommended by a Friend,
By A Customer
This review is from: Confessions of a Sister Out of Time (Paperback)
Confessions of a Sister Out of Time was recommended to me by a friend who is a member of ECKANKAR, an ancient Tibetan religion of the light and the sound. This religion, like many others, believes in reincarnation. I was having trouble understanding the concept until I read this book by Leaks. I think the book is wonderful. The bad reviews show no evidence that they read the book at all. There is an ECKANKAR web site that provides more informaton on the world-wide web. To say that this book pretends to be something more than it is, shows either a lack of understanding or a personal grudge against someone.
