5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this book
I've read about 20 books of late about strippers/sex workers & can honestly say that this one & Strip City by Lily Burana are my two favorites, with Lacey Lane slightly edging Ms. Burana out. They both made me laugh out loud & I couldn't put either one down but Ms. Lane's comes out on top because there aren't endless descriptions of outfits in it. hahaha Not that I...

1.0 out of 5 stars who knew that stripping could be so boring, October 3, 2004
This review is from: Confessions of a Stripper: Tales from the VIP Room (Paperback)
As someone that works in the sex industry - i am always looking for material that doesn't demean or ridicule girls in my field. Frankly, this book did just that. Lacey Lane held herself up to be a pristine stripper with morals of gold - while her fellow dancers are portrayed to be a little more nasty and a little more seedy, and a little more willing to do anything for a dollar. In the beginning Ms Lane hints that her life, like the life of any dancer, was chock full of drama ... and yet we heard very little about it.

As for the actual tales from the VIP room, I have heard them all before, and they were told with a little more vim and vigor the first time I heard them.

I was so disappointed in this book

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Tame and too boring!, October 16, 2006
This review is from: Confessions of a Stripper: Tales from the VIP Room (Paperback)
This one is a fast read, but it's fast because it's boring! The author's issues with self-aggrandizement are really present in her writing...she is perfect and everyone else has the most horrific flaws! She never waivers to put someone down and yet, never makes any intention of trying to figure out why the person is acting/reacting in a certain way. I was bored with her tales of the VIP because none of it was really surprising to me. Actually, I came away wondering why she found it so amusing??

1.0 out of 5 stars Surface Skimming, June 25, 2004

This book was lame. After a few chapters about the stereotypical dancer, the stereotypical strip club owner, the stereotypical strip club DJ, The stereotypical strip club bouncer, the author breaks the book into short (1-3 pages)chapters about clients. Each client has a boring story to accompany him (or her) None of them are particularly interesting, shocking, or entertaining. One guy likes feet, one guy likes lingerie. etc.

If a skin-a-max movie could be a book, this would be it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I absolutely loved this book, June 8, 2004

I've read about 20 books of late about strippers/sex workers & can honestly say that this one & Strip City by Lily Burana are my two favorites, with Lacey Lane slightly edging Ms. Burana out. They both made me laugh out loud & I couldn't put either one down but Ms. Lane's comes out on top because there aren't endless descriptions of outfits in it. hahaha Not that I don't appreciate the fascination with fabulous dancewear, it just wasn't my thing. This is just excellent entertainment & I wish I'd read it BEFORE I blew my savings on strip clubs. My one criticism of this book is that it's too dang short. Man, I would've LOVED to hear more more more.

I've given copies to my favorite dancer friends (we have a sort of strip club reading club going on) & they agree with me. Very fun, very entertaining book. Not what you'd want if you're looking for intense sociological studies but for great behind-the-scenes tales & a wicked sense of humor, Lacey Lane's your best bet.

boring, boring, boring. I bought this to give to a friend of mine who dances. Tried to read it, it sucked out loud. Trashed it instead of passing it on.

4.0 out of 5 stars great insight, December 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Confessions of a Stripper: Tales from the VIP Room (Paperback)
This was a great insight to the stripper's world. I love that she makes a point to say that the women are in charge, and that they run the show. The men are panting, willing money-slaves and very readable and predictable. I have a friend whose husband had been to strip clubs (many couneling sessions later they are still married), and he couldn't get through the first chapter. As a man, he assumed the men were in control, but he was VERY enlightened and quite a bit embarrassed to learn otherwise. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because she kept saying things like (not direct quotes, I am ad-libbing) "these certain things were disgusting but I never did them", when describing other strippers as if she were plantes above them in some way. But I have more respect for exotic dancers now, though. Great read.

I read the book expecting some inside information, I did't get it. She didn't tell anything but the odd things and odd people. My ersonal experience over a long period of time and many establishments she wasn't telling what really goes on, at least part of the time with some of t he dancers. Iknkow htere is a lot of fooling around that happens eveywhere than she disclosed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, June 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Confessions of a Stripper: Tales from the VIP Room (Paperback)
The title of this book is misleading. It should be called "Confessions of a stripper: I can't think of anything interesting". Not only is it boring, it's poorly written. I don't think there's one page that doesn't talk about money. I don't even believe the boring stories she tells, because sometimes there are conflicting facts within 2 sentences of each other. Save your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money, December 14, 2011

The woman who wrote this is one of those who thinks she's "seen it all" but in fact she's seen basically nothing if you can believe anything she wrote here. She looks down her snooty nose at other strippers and does absolutely nothing to bring you into the REAL world of strip clubs. I've been in them and owned two over the years. She makes out like she was the Virgin Mary of the stripper world -- and her stories are tame, boring and frankly, a lot of BS.

There is a lot of hot and tawdry stuff that goes on in a strip club. She does nothing to shed any light on any of it.

Stereotypical characters? Maybe, but it all rang so true for me. There is a reason for the stereotype. This was such a great entertaining read; I read the book twice back to back.

Lacey, girl, you're hilarious. I've recommended your book to many co-workers & they've all loved it. I don't know what Mr. Phoenix's problem is (maybe that he lives in Phoenix?) but your book rocks. I was thinking about writing a book on my experiences but now see it's already been done. Brava to you.
