Great bluesy and gritty rock, August 2, 2000
This review is from: And the Confessions / Ten Stories (Audio CD)
Rick Elias' solo albums should have done much better commercially because they are rare in that the music is tight and the lyrics are transparent--he bares his soul on these albums. He has an excellent band backing him up and there are always surprises. I consider "Streets of Rome" from Rick Elias and the Confessions a classic. If you could wear out a CD, I would have done that with his first one. These two albums for one price is quite a deal, too. He is known now for being part of the Ragamuffins (Rich Mullins) and for his songwriting in the movie "That Thing You Do."
I highly recommend them to anyone who wants something different--a la Neil Young (and Rick also has a rough voice and uses the harmonica) or early John Mellancamp.

Heart of a POET,Soul of a Warrior, June 22, 2002
This review is from: And the Confessions / Ten Stories (Audio CD)
I wrote Rick Elias a letter after his first"album",and he sat down and hand wrote me a reply back.Anyone who would do that much for a 'fan',is someone to be admired!!His music rocks and his words lay his soul bare for all to see.Having lived through the drug culture of the 70's and 80's,I can easily identify with his stories;people struggling with their beliefs, disappointments and heartaches. The song'Without one Word', strikes a chord deeper than anything I've ever known as I've been that person more times than icare to admit. If I'd owned a gun I would not be here today, thank God!I've been in a band, spent time in jail, been held hostage at gunpoint, beaten and abused behind bars, etc. When life gets me down I play that song, and am reminded of how far I've come by the grace of God.His hand literally lifted me back up onto a mountaintop in '83...I could go on,but his music means so very much to me,I wish he could do the same for others,I'm sure it does.God bless him. sincerely,a fellow poet.
