5.0 out of 5 stars I am the wife with the turtles..., May 26, 2002

This review is from: Confessions of a Turtle Wife: A Man, a Woman, and the Turtles That Threaten to Come Between Them (Paperback)
In our marriage, I am the one (wife) with the turtles (and other reptiles) and my husband has moved from indifference to quiet love for my critters.
While somewhat episodic, the book is funny and so true! It is
a wonderful account of the ups, downs, laughs and tears
of turtle ownership.
I give this 5 stars for the humor, and for bringing turtles
to the rest of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Shell Humor, February 27, 2002

I LOVED THIS BOOK! If you're looking for a very funny quick read--a real diversion--then pick up a copy of "Confessions of a Turtle Wife" by Anita Salzberg.

You don't have to know a thing about turtles or even care about them, but I guarantee by the time you finish this hilarious, educational, and positively charming book, you'll realize it's not about turtles after all. It's a cosmic New York love story--a guy obsessed with chelonians and the woman who falls in love with him...and his turtles.

Knowing ultimatums do not work, Salzberg never says "it's me or the turtles." It's a sidelong glance at how to find true happiness by accepting what cannot be changed, and, a very funny one, at that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turtles and Husbands, April 25, 2002

This review is from: Confessions of a Turtle Wife: A Man, a Woman, and the Turtles That Threaten to Come Between Them (Paperback)
This delightful, funny, even suspenseful book is ostensibly about the experience of living with a "turtle nut" (my term for a turtle enthusiast). The book does deliver quantities of information on that topic, as well as about turtles as pets, caring for turtles, turtle conservation, and more.

However, it's also a personal and touching chronicle of a relationship developing between a man and a woman.

The author brings a light and humorous touch to the entire book. I often laughed out loud while reading it. And, believe it or not, Confessions of a Turtle Wife is a page turner! I could not put it down. (There is even a chapter about sex that includes a graphic description of the sex act-between consenting adult turtles!)

A most enjoyable, informative, and uplifting book-I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arrrgh! It Kept Me Awake!, January 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Confessions of a Turtle Wife: A Man, a Woman, and the Turtles That Threaten to Come Between Them (Paperback)
I frequently read books to help me get to sleep. But "Confession of a Turtle Wife" was no help at all. It's very funny, enjoyable, engaging and it moves along quite nicely, pulling the reader in and keeping him interested ... and awake. I'm not even a turtle person; the picture on the cover looked funny. And while they're an interesting hook, turtles are not all that's there. It's also an endearing story about a couple who found each other through a magazine.

Buy the book -- it's fun. You might end up saving a turtle, which would be a good thing. If nothing else, you'll get some nice laughs. But if you're looking for a book to help you get to sleep at night, THIS ISN'T IT. Read it in the morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Turtle/Tortoise Lovers, December 17, 2001
This review is from: Confessions of a Turtle Wife: A Man, a Woman, and the Turtles That Threaten to Come Between Them (Paperback)
Confessions of a Turtle Wife is the well written, humorous tale of what a turtle lover will subject his/her partner to and how the partner reacted. Being a turtle/tortoise fanatic myself I was startled by the parallels to my lifestyle and the actions I take to see turtles whenever possible. I take consolation in knowing that I am not the only one.

Every turtle aficionado should read this book for a little self-awareness, and every partner to a turtle lover will find it an entertaining warning of what to expect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Its not only about turtles. honest, May 20, 2002

This review is from: Confessions of a Turtle Wife: A Man, a Woman, and the Turtles That Threaten to Come Between Them (Paperback)
This book is about relationships and love. Because if a couple can go through all this couple went through and still be with each other,it has to be true love. Or the sex.
Its also a very funny book, the type you can't put down when you start. Its full of situations you can emulate if you are in a similar situation, "You want that honey, OK then I get the diamond bracelet, you want to build what? Ok they I'll go buy our tickets to Paris.
Anyone who lives with someone who is obsessed about something they don't like and only tolerate (golf, footbal, Star Trek) will love this book. Even if only just to learn it can be worse.
Buy it. Read it.
