This latest album due out in September arrived on my desk early yesterday morning. What disturbed me the most was the fact that the cd insert was so cheaply made, and contained no album photos or information inside other than session credits. What surprised me was the track listing on the back....Minnelli's near naked body appears alongside the track listing of an incredible 8 songs....the first of which is a painstakingly slow version of pennies from heaven....not a Liza standard by any means. I won't spoil the other mis-chosen tunes other than the second to last song..a new addition to the Minnelli repertoire, a cover of her mothers famous rendition of Through The Years.....that has got to be the best track of all. Other than that you've got nothing to write home about.
According the information on Liza's website, "Pennies From Heaven" is not even one of the songs on the album, so I don't know how the reviewer could have heard this song on this album. And, why should Liza only sing songs considered as her standards? Isn't she permitted to sing other songs?
By the way, "Through The Years" is not listed as a song title, either. I think this is a mis-guided review.
The official track listings are: 1. Confession 2. You Fascinate Me So 3. All the Way * 4. I Hadn't Anyone 'Til You 5. This Heart of Mine * 6. I Got Lost in His Arms 7. Remind Me * 8. Close Your Eyes 9. He's a Tramp 10. I Must Have That Man 11. On Such a Night As This * 12. Moments Like This 13. Breathing * 14. If I Had You 15. At Last
* Special 15 track disc release - otherwise 10 track standard disc
Have you never received an advanced promo before?! They usually don't come with a full booklet, insert, etc. What you have won't represent the final product. (In fact, you're lucky to have gotten any artwork at all.) So stop clutching your pearls-- I'm sure there will be linear notes come September.
Yes I'm here to make a change.....The cd that was given to me had songs that did not make the final cut....it was more of a rough draft than I had realized, hence the cut of "Pennies from Heaven" and "Through The Years" although I thought the latter should have been kept in. I did however take a trip to see Liza in Asbury Park a few nights ago and was disappointed. These songs she's doing are supposed to be songs from her childhood memory....and I guess she's lost that, because she needed a tele-prompter for most of the show...and sadly even to introduce the band of 5 men, whom she's known for much of her career. The only guy she didn't need a prompter for was long-time bassist Chip Jackson....Who by no means showed honor-due in his playing.
you are simply misguided in your comments. This is one of our living legends you are talking about here. Perhaps you need to re listen to this CD. I dont have an advance copy and I can honestly state that I am proud of Liza for overcoming so much strife and negativity in her life. (Some of which comes from people like you) And why are you calling yourself LucieArnaz when you are not her? Every single performer uses a telepromter at some point. Please, if you are going to 'add' to a discussion, get your facts straight first.
Then how can you call LuciArnaz3567 "misguided" for his critiques of the album? HE heard the album, not you. Just because Liza's a "living legend" doesn't mean that every recording of hers has the Midas touch. She doesn't get a free pass just b/c of the s**t she put herself through.
I personally love Liza, but let's face it, in terms of vocals, she ain't what she used to be. She's still a ball of energy & I love seeing her live, but I can't imagine this album not having its flaws.
How could anyone believe a post on here supposedly coming from luciearnaz...when to steal her name, as you have done, is in itself a form of mental instability. Whoever you are, your obvious hatred for a major show business icon who has surely never met you, nor had anything whatsoever to do with your dismal life, is really rather frightening. I sincerely hope you get some HELP.

Hey Bruce, I am a Dj, but have "no idea" what DLX other than "Deluxe" I am sure if there is a Deluxe CD, it will be released AFTER the original CD, (typical) it's ALL about promotion as well as $$$$ The Deluxe CD will I am sure be a 2 CD, and/or some remixes or "extra tracks" not on the commercial CD ?? it is very common in the music world, THEN there will prob. be another "Greatest Hits" CD LOL. So, take care IF I am correct on the DLX (well at least I understand, that. Give the ole' talented gal some time) LOL Musical Hugs 2 you and ALL / Jay
LOL Adv. Releases come my way all the time (from Liza and the Songstress legends she is associated with / also Whitney / Madonna and so many more, promo artwork @ times comes, BUT there may be many changes to the look of the official release as well as a booklet, I just miss the lyrics in the leaflet/booklet (the lyrics) REALLY make the track so understandable as to... "what was going through her mind when, writing the song" makes even a commercial CD disappointing 2 a degree" / Jay (still with my pearls LOL)
Sorry, I sent you an e-mail, I appreciate your thoughts though, but it is illegal to copy due to CC Rights "just Wait, the CD is Amazing" please ck. your e-mail (the yahoo address) Thanks tho. but this is very precious (a KEEPER) / Jay
Jason, please send me an email at DAAENTERTAINMENT@HOTMAIL.COM - it's regarding the discussion of an advance copy of Liza's new album...I know it's illegal to copy due to CC rights and would like to discuss it. Thanks a bunch.
Please! Do not even compare the artistry of la Callas, Garland, & Sinatra to Liza Minnelli. Even when those artists were in vocal decline, their artistry & integrity remained. Liza has never had any such qualities. Her & her "yes"-people think that because she's 64 she can just enter a recording studio & sing ballads. This is something that one has to hone & craft over the many years (please see Streisand's "Love Is the Answer") & Liza has never been a song stylist of any kind, excepting that of a "broadway belter"
To each his own. I think Liza has always been great at ballads, as well as belting. I've always thought of her as a fine jazz singer and that's what her latest CD shows her as. It's a wonderful CD and I hope she does 10 more in the next few years just like it!
