Most Helpful Customer Reviews

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By Christopher Silbernagel on May 23, 2011
Format: Audio CD
After releasing their fantastic EP "Ice Cream Bones," Chicago's A Lull were looking to master their unique sound with the release of "Confetti." What has been accomplished through this album is a sound that reflects Sigur Rós with an urban dominant drum and bass feel. At times these sounds can also be compared, but not replicated, to Battles' first major release "Mirrored." This is a very good sign of things to come.

The first track "Weapons for War" hits you hard and instantly captures your attention. Immediately I understood why ESPN used the track for one of their compilation videos. The music continues to climb with intense drum and bass through the fourth track before dipping a bit and changing pace to feel a bit more hip-hop.

At times, and I mean exactly two tracks in the middle, the music becomes a bit unfriendly to a casual listener looking for a catchy tune. These are still great pieces that will change up the mood dramatically. From there it changes again with "Water & Beasts," which is a favorite of mine on the album as it really reflects the comparisons I made earlier. I tend not to compare artists, but in this case the unique blend really amuses me.

"Confetti" starts strong and ends very well. The scope of everything you hear constantly changes, reflecting multiple genres and combining interesting sounds with some traditional instrumentation dominating through eleven tracks.
