Book Description

June 2003
There is no one "right answer" to a quilt-making colour dilemma, according to teacher/designer Mary Mashuta. Mashuta seeks to demonstrate that instead there are many right answers. These six quilt projects - based on simple, traditional-style blocks - seek to show readers how to stretch their artistic ability and build their colour confidence. Quilters should discover dozens of "right answers" for constructing original designs, choosing vibrant colours, keeping backgrounds fresh and interesting, and developing an individual style that makes each quilt special.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, clear and concise, October 13, 2003

This review is from: Confetti Quilts: A No-Fuss Approach to Color, Fabric and Design (Paperback)
This book opens up your eyes to color. I love the way the author has used photos of buildings with interesting color combinations to show us examples of various color schemes. The color wheels shown with each quilt throuhout the book help to explain the use of color and aid in expanding ones sense of adventure with color. The quilts shown in the book are fun and appear to be easy. I love seeing several examples of the same quilt, but carried out with different color schemes and different layouts. I would like to make each one of the quilts in the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful and thorough design guide, June 7, 2004

This review is from: Confetti Quilts: A No-Fuss Approach to Color, Fabric and Design (Paperback)
This book offers detailed ideas about how to coordinate colors and make really beautiful quilts. The design ideas are presented in a straightforward way and seem relatively easy to implement, yet it's a 'meaty' text with plenty to think about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" reference for quilt color and design in your home library!, August 8, 2010
This review is from: Confetti Quilts: A No-Fuss Approach to Color, Fabric and Design (Paperback)
I purchased this book because I have seem the author's name referenced in Kaffe Fassett quilt books. Published in 2003, this is the best book I have read so far regarding color and design in quilt making. While there is enough information given in the book for the reader to reproduce some of the quilts shown, this is not just another book low in instruction and high in quilt patterns. Ms. Mashuta's teaching expertise regarding color selection in quilts becomes readily apparent, such as when she makes recommendations regarding slight mismatching of colors, termed "pushed neutrals" to make the color in quilts more interesting to view. The book is filled with examples of use of color in quilts, with accompanying illustrations of how colors were used on the color wheel, as well as design hints regarding how the quilts shown would be affected by color or design changes. While she admits that many quilters can intuitively make color and design decisions, Ms. Mashuta introduces the concept of establishing a set of "rules" for the quilt maker to follow in order to create a more successful quilt.
While some pictures of clothing and houses that are shown to illustrate use of color makes the book seem a little dated, the quilts shown are beautiful and timeless and I want to make them myself.
Whenever I begin a new quilt, this book will be a constant reference. I am sorry I waited so long to buy the book.
