3.0 out of 5 stars Sergio Mendes' weakest album, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Confetti (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt Sergio Mendes' weakest album ever; released originally in 1984, musically this album fell in a ditch of pop / disco & smooth jazz with songs that nobody will ever remember, songs that had no real identity and no significance of any kind; perhaps only Ivan Lins' "The Sound of One Song" is a standout because of that beautiful choir of kids.

Another "rescueable" song is Ivan Lins' "Kisses" performed here by Gracinha Leporace.

I'd also like to add that the ugliest song ever recorded by any of Sergio's groups is also included here: "Morrer de Amor", lousy selection.

If you collect Sergio Mendes, this is a must have by all means; but if you're looking for a good work of Sergio in the 80's, the other 3 albums he recorded in that decade, besides this one, are actually waaaaay better:

"Sergio Mendes" from 1983, "Brasil 86" from 1986 and "Arara" from 1989.

P.S. Amazon's page doesn't include the tracks, so here they are:

1. Olympia

2. Say it With Your Body

3. Let's Give a Little More This Time

4. The Sound of One Song

5. Alibis

6. Dance Attack

7. Kisses

8. Real Life

9. Morrer de Amor

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the 3 singles released from this album, September 3, 2009
This review is from: Confetti (Audio CD)
My 3 favorite songs on this album are: Real Life, Alibis & Olympia. These 3 songs are great, uptempo pop songs.

None were major hits on the Billboard HOT 100 back in 1984. Olympia peaked at #58 and Alibis reached #29 in August 1984. Real Life never charted on the HOT 100.

On Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, the 3 songs did better. Olympia hit #18, Alibis peaked at #5 and Real Life reached #17.

TRIVIA: The song Olympia was written for the 1984 Summer Olympics.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of new air..., April 7, 2009
This review is from: Confetti (Audio CD)
This album has warmed my heart for nearly 25 years and has given me life and inspiration through many trying times. What a pleasant variety of songs! The compilation is anything but boring. I don't know what the previous reviewer was referring to... that it was a break away from A&M, I think it was right on. Anyone familiar with Brasilian jazz and the Mendez sound, would say it was an excellent representation of his inovative work. Incidently, my favorite song from this recording is "Real Life". Joe Pazzio, whom I believe is the singer's name, is abosolutely dynamic and the words are so true. This song could still fit into the pop music world today. I heartily give Confetti a five stars!
