[UPDATE - 7/22/2013]
Dropped rating down to 1 star (previously 2 stars).

I purchased this unit approximately 1.5 years ago and it is now broken! A wheel on the seat cracked while I was working out. The seat locked up when I was in mid-stride and caused a back injury for which I am currently mending :(
Prior to that the seat unit was extremely wobbly due to the wheel housing being too large for the main base it connects to (manufacturer defect). That is not safe and admittedly I should have returned it earlier.

What did I expected from a $200 rower? I expected the thing to last longer than 1.5 years! And now that it is out of warranty I'm left with a $200 pile of scrap.

I was looking for an entry-level machine that was the pulley style with multiple resistances. Since I wasn't willing to invest in an expensive machine for my first rower, I set my sights on models under $500. Boy was I surprised to find that there really aren't that many options in that price range! There are a few more choices if you are willing to forgo multiple resistances but I wasn't.

After much searching I finally came across this unit. I figured for this price I can't go wrong, right?!? Well...

Pros:
Inexpensive rower
Multiple resistances
Pulley style

Cons:
Very poor construction
Computer is a joke (lacks features, not very user friendly, etc.)
LOUD!!!

My particular rower:
*Wobbles (the darn thing isn't even level!)
*The computer doesn't function
*I had to hammer in a few bolts during assembly due to metal defects in holes
*Makes a whining noise when working out
*Is extremely small (was this designed for a child?

This was about the worst exercise product I have ever bought. It has almost no resistance even at the hardest level and the seat keeps coming off when using. Don't waste your money. I don't usually post bad reviews but this thing is worthless to me.

I purchased this about three months ago and it sat in the box for two months. I had a free day and opened the box and had at it. I was done putting it together in about 90 minutes (the instructions are TERRIBLE) but, in the end, everything fit well and all the pieces were there. In terms of using it, for me, it's great. I take it apart each time I use it and put the long piece in one closet and the unit itself in another. I live in a small place so this unit was the only one that I could consider. I run marathons and wanted something to keep me going when it's raining outside or I don't have several hours to run. It takes me five minutes to set it up and it works great. I have nothing to compare it to but I can't think of a single reason to not like this rower. I didn't connect the onboard computer so I can't comment on if that works. In sum, if you need something very small, you have a choice of this or nothing. Luckily, this option is a good one and the price is reasonable.

I was almost scared off from getting this device after reading the other reviews, but I'm glad I did get it. It wasn't that hard assembling it, and the instructions were easy enough to follow. Once together, The action of the machine was much better than I expected. You're not going to build muscles with the resistance, but you will get a good aerobic workout. I also another Rowing Machine, and this Confidence machine runs circles around the it: Seat, is more comfortable, seat slides better, resistance is more uniform. I am 5" 11'' and I get a perfect stroke with the machine. I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone that has to keep the cost of a rower in a budget range.

Overall not satisfied with it. Mainly because it came to us looking like it was already used. The main frame portion had a bend in it, which required me to bang it out and annoy the neighbors (thin walls) and some of the washers weren't included. The entire package of parts looked like it was re-wrapped with a roll of packaging tape, instead of the original packaging it probably came with. Was missing one of the tools required with it, had to get tools from a friend to put this thing together. Inconvenient.

Ran well, semi-quiet for the price. Just not happy with secondhand stuff when paying for new. Want to talk to customer service.

I got my rower today. It was not difficult to assemble at all. In fact I did it all by myself. The seat glides smoothly and I can feel a change in the tension although not a lot. However for at home cardio it's fine. My husband is about 220 pounds and he had no problem with using the machine. I admit I was a little nervous reading some previous reviews but I'm extremely glad I followed my instincts and the positive reviews. I would recommend this rower to anyone seeking to add an extra affordable piece of cardio equipment for at home use. It's a nice change from jumping rope and great for pre-workout warm up.
