5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - for the succesful who want the NEXT LEVEL
Excellent book-- I found this book pretty much on accident at a book store and have been pleasantly surprised-- it's concise, delivers chunks of valuable insight in short chapters. And, it provides practical methods to change mental perceptions. Have been reading a chapter a night so far and am looking to see what other books this author has written as the style and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent book
I had high expectations for this book, based on the reviews that I had read on amazon. The author has done a great job in ensuring that most, if not all, of his chapters are backed up by research and studies. I found that this gives his advice context and also greater credibility. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - for the succesful who want the NEXT LEVEL, June 22, 2005
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
Excellent book-- I found this book pretty much on accident at a book store and have been pleasantly surprised-- it's concise, delivers chunks of valuable insight in short chapters. And, it provides practical methods to change mental perceptions. Have been reading a chapter a night so far and am looking to see what other books this author has written as the style and information are excellent. Also-- the premise of this book is unique in that the author understands/assumes that you have tasted success before (good grades, leadership roles etc) - you're not on skid row looking for a hand. So the author dives right into techniques designed to elevate you, who has leadership / success traits, to the NEXT LEVEL - what ever that level may be of your own choosing. Being a mid-level associate in a law firm looking to move my career ahead- I found this book to provide just the right amount of stimulating thought, and practical suggestions. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ursiny makes you question everything your mind thinks of you., December 11, 2006

Lorraine (Tampa Bay, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
This book is Brilliant! I came by it by accident at my local library looking for more self-confidence in business. This book is divided into a 6 week study and it takes about 15 minutes per day to read. All the chapters are short and sweet. Sometime during that day, you get that light bulb moment, Oh Yeah - this is what he was talking about, this is how I have been sabotaging myself. I can't believe I do that. Wow, I'm not going to do that anymore.

It's like an owner's manual for the human brain. The book helps you troubleshoot what the problem is or in my case problems are and then gives simple "reset button" solutions. Nothing rather hard or difficult.

It is challenging to continue because I keep learning a little more about myself. I feel my confidence growing and that in itself scares me so I've put the book down and left it for days at a time. I was nervous to grow.

He recommends doing this book with a buddy. A trusted tried and true friend that you believe in because it asks for that person to tell you your weaknesses.

It is amazing what I learned about myself just from that one day's lesson. Through someone's eyes, I saw me, and I liked me. I was a good person.

On the outside, I am a strong, independent, intelligent person. Now it's time for the inside to know that! I strongly encourage you to give this gift to yourself first. This book does you no good with dust on it. I know the book cover is tacky but don't let that mislead you. I wish you all the best. Lorraine

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent book, June 5, 2007

This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
I had high expectations for this book, based on the reviews that I had read on amazon. The author has done a great job in ensuring that most, if not all, of his chapters are backed up by research and studies. I found that this gives his advice context and also greater credibility. Another great feature of this book is the number of exercises that Ursiny provides for the reader, both throughout the book and also the extra section at the end. This helps to ensure that the reader is able to put into practice the advice and tips that the author recommends.

There were a few things that I did not like about the book though. Firstly, despite being over 300 pages long, I felt that most of the chapters did not go into enough detail. Each chapter is almost like an introduction to a topic that is not followed by a more indepth analysis or discussion of the points. The author seems to skim over a number of different topics and I felt that every chapter of the book could have had a lot more substance. Secondly, I felt that the book lost some credibility with what seemed to be constant references to God and religion. It is clear that Ursiny is passionate about his religion - something that I do not criticize - but it undermines the credibility of the arguments and points for those who are not religious.

I think that a lot of people will be able to get a lot out of this book. I do not feel that this is the best confidence book that I have read, but it is well written and is an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars information you can use NOW, September 14, 2005
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
I agree with the other reviewer. This is solid information that you can use now. The chapters can be read in one short sitting, and I like this book, because he breaks real research down (instead of new age insights, or self-evident ideas like "believe in yourself"). The author has a PhD and it comes through in the sense that you get the feeling this is real research and not something someone just came up with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Five realms you can change to build your confidence, June 1, 2006
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
No matter how successful you are - or aren't - this book can have a substantial impact on your self-confidence and your life. We recommend reading it and doing its confidence-boosting exercises. If you're an avid reader of self-help books, chances are you won't discover any huge new "secrets" here. Read it anyway. Author Tim Ursiny delivers a complete, easy-to-follow plan for rediscovering yourself and becoming truly confident. With short, easy-to-read chapters, and entertaining stories you can relate to, it is enjoyable from start to finish. It is also immensely practical, hands-on and right on target.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for anyone, March 9, 2007
By
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
I got this book because even though I am quite confident in the work place I tend towards lacking it at times in my personal life. The book is simple to follow, doesn't spend lots of time having you "analyze" your past but focuses on where you want to be and where you are. It has simple exercises to nudge you towards your goal of having greater confidence in whatever area of your life you find it lacking. I highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better books on confidence, November 7, 2010
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
I agree with most of the other reviews for this book. As someone who has read lots (and I mean lots!) of books on confidence, this is certainly one of the better ones. Although, having said that, I concur with the reviewers who said that it is a little too dry or academic in terms of content.

The format does work well, but for my money, I would recommend my current favorite book on how to build confidence - Instant Confidence: 92 Tips On How To Build Confidence To Develop Self-Confidence And Self-Esteem - which is even more straight-to-the-point and immediately usuable because of its tips format. But...if you have enough money and want to cover all the bases - then get both books like I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well laid out, November 2, 2008

This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
I must say that I really enjoyed this books presentation and evolution of the concept that it presented. I really have to say I had low expectations of this book. I really didn't believe in a lot of the claims of this book till I hit the first couple of exercises.

You will really get to know yourself a whole lot better by the end of this book and I think that's the major jist of where this book was trying to take you. I would definitely refer it to a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel confident already! ^_^, April 3, 2011
This review is from: The Confidence Plan: How to Build a Stronger You (Paperback)
Like other customers, I ran into this in a used bookstore. I really like the short lessons which you can do once a day, and it's even set by 7 lessons for 6 weeks. I'm only completing week 3, and it's helped me to learn about myself and how to catch my actions (as well as others). I am also learning how to change my frame of mind from realizing my "pessimist" side to a more "optimistic" outlook. The psychological explanations and funny/interesting stories really make the book enjoyable and easier to adapt in my life. I like this book and the author so much, I've purchased other books by him and hoping I may be able to change my frame of mind. Also, if you can't really take criticism, please be advised that you might be very discouraged. However, if you have that will to make a change for the better, this book has great knowledge and understand. I'm very happy I found it and hope others will be able to use it too.
