Editorial Reviews

Review

Arnon is a special man. His activities gave us a huge advantage, strategically, diplomatically, and technologically. In my present position as president, I am restrained from recommending any single individual for our highest defense-related honor, but undoubtedly, Arnon Milchan is worthy of such an acknowledgment, and that's as close to a recommendation that I, as president, can give. -- Source: Shimon Peres, President of Israel.

Never, never tell jokes about a man with easy access to weapons of mass destruction. -- Source: Peter Chernin, former CEO of Fox Entertainment Group.

Arnon Milchan...is a loyal and generous friend who also happens to be a great longterm and trustworthy partner. -- Source: Rupert Murdoch, CEO, News Corporation.

One of my friends recommended this book to me, and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It is almost unbelievable, but the authors know that it seems rather incredible, so they have carefully documented their sources and made sure that informed readers will take their reporting seriously. It isn't hard to imagine the book being a movie--and it would doubtless turn out to be a blockbuster like so many of Milchan's own films. Applause, applause!

A simply fascinating story, well written and immensely entertaining about the man behind such movies as Pretty Woman, Brazil and LA Confidential and his double life as the man who gave Israel the atomic bomb. Truly a character out of James Bond type fiction.

My family has been friends with Arnon for years though we of course didn't know about much that is in this book! It was a very interesting read, quite technical regarding the nuclear and weapons parts but fascinating nonetheless and easily readable, even for a novice. I loved all of the anecdotes from his years in the movie business. Incredible to learn how much he was actually involved in politically, culturally etc and with such success. (though not always! See Harry potter missed opportunity...)

Confidential: The Life of Secret Agent Turned Hollywood Tycoon- Arnon Milchan is an eye-opening biography of a man who basically is the reason for such movie classics as L.A. Confidential and Pretty Woman but is also a key part in the defense of Israel basically from its inception. While introducing the reader to Arnon Milchan, the authors Meir Doran and Joseph Gelman are also introducing you to the relations between the United States and Israel. They successfully juxtapose the espionage and wheeling and dealing of Milchan with work in the U.S. in getting needed weapons for Israel's defense with the wheeling and dealing of getting movies off the ground and keeping studios, directors, etc. happy. I think the title would have been better served with Secret Agent and Hollywood Tycoon. The book does get a little dry in its delivery with its technical aspects but then with non-fiction, it doesn't work too well to skip over such things. All in all, I think it's a good reference to Istael and United States relations, the defense of Israel, and can be a good conversation starter on nuclear weapons and the technology.

They say that truth is stranger than fiction. A totally enthralling life. This book couldn't have been more fascinating if it had been written as a fictitious thriller. So well written, so rich in fact and descriptive in context. The characters are vivid, patriotic, daring and smart. The rigor of the research is admirable. Surely a film must be made but Milchan surely deserves to cast the lead role!

Riveting & very interesting. A page turner. A story about an Israeli that not too many people are familiar with.

Confidential is a wonderful look behind the scenes at the life of a very interesting character, Arnon Milchan. For Americans, it has a lot of insight on Middle Eastern-Isreali events that hit the news here, but were never reported on in depth- as well as quite a bit of info into the arms race in the area. It also has interesting looks at some of the Hollywood elites, both talent and producers. The narrative flows well and carries the story fast enough that the casual reader won't get too bogged down with the unfamiliar. The photos really give an added dimension to the story. Altogether an interesting and enjoyable read for those with an interest in the middle east and for the person interested in Hollywood as well.

The book uncovers the secret life of the hollywood producer whose blockbuster movies we know so well. It sheds light on the inner workings of the Israeli government and their secret collaboration with Arnon Milchan, a successful Hollywood Tycoon! Arnon Milchan served as a double agent to assist his country advance in this vast world of politics! His story is remarkable and his rise to fame is fueled by his desire to aid his country! Such a beautifully told story of patriotism, intelligence, and Hollywood glam all rolled into one :) I highly recommend reading!
