About the Author

Flavio E. Goncalves was born in 1966 and has a bachelor degree in engineering. He is also the CEO of V.Office Networks, a consulting company dedicated to the areas of Networks, Security, and Telecommunications and a training center since its foundation in 1996. Since 1993, he has participated in a series of certification programs and has been certificated as Novell MCNE/MCNI, Microsoft MCSE/MCT, Cisco CCSP/CCNP/CCDP, and Asterisk dCAP. He started writing about open source software because he thinks that the way certification programs were organized in the past was very good for helping learners. Some books today are written by strictly technical people who, sometimes, do not have a clear idea of how people learn. He tried to use his 15 years of experience as an instructor to help people learn about the open source telephony software. His experience on networks, protocol analyzers, and IP telephony combined with his teaching experience gives him an edge to write this book. This is the new editions of its first book "Configuration Guide for Asterisk PBX", the other two books written by him were "Building Telephony Systems with OpenSIPS, Packt Publishing 2010" and "Building Telephony Systems with OpenSIPS - Packt Publishing -2008". As the CEO of V.Office, Flavio E. Goncalves balances his time between family, work, and fun. He is a father of two children and lives in Florianopolis, Brazil, one of the most beautiful places in the world. He dedicates his free time to water sports such as surfing and sailing. You can contact him at flavio@asteriskguide.com, or visit his website www.asteriskguide.com.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good beginners book, May 17, 2007

This review is from: Configuration Guide for Asterisk PBX (Paperback)
This book is designed for the beginner. It clearly walks you through examples to configure the Asterisk server. If you are familiar with configuring an Asterisk server this book is probably not for you.

The book uses large type so the 370 pages is a little misleading.

Its written as a text book and has a test at the end of each chapter.

Noticed many grammatical errors, for example, "we are created a peer" and "it is also possible too pass channel and..." however its understandable.

This book is clearly written and easy to understand. Users will only require a small amount of Asterisk & Linux knowledge to be able to use this guide and fully understand the Asterisk PBX in its entirity.
