Best Firewall Book Ever,

This review is from: Cisco ASA Configuration (Networking Professional's Library) (Paperback)
I've read many books on firewalls and overall technical guides ,and I think this book is one of the absolute best.
Even if you're a novice at Cisco Command Line and Firewalls, you can take this book, and if you follow instructions, you will become an ACE at ASA! Incredibly put. Very few technical books are written so effectively for any levels of knowledge, from novice to expert.

It's the ASA Bible,

This review is from: Cisco ASA Configuration (Networking Professional's Library) (Paperback)
Basically this book is the Bible on the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA). It starts it's 27 chapters (In the beginning, so to speak) with a basic description of the various models of the ASA. From there it goes on to cover the hardware/software of the appliance. It presumes no fore knowledge of the command line interface, but it does presume you are not a complete beginner. For instance he uses jargon like "IPv6" and presumes that you know what this means. As such, I consider this to be an intermediate level book. It's aimed at the professional market, not the typical user of a $50 home network device.
If it's your job to setup and then maintain a secure network using the ASA, here's an excellent place to start. The writing style is good, the information is complete, and it covers the subject well.

This book was probably good (for beginners) in its day, but for 8.4 it is highly outdated (and therefor wrong).

This book is really awesome. Richard Deal is an amazing author, he included almost everything on these 700+ pages. I can recommend "Cisco ASA Config" to anyone interested in learning PIX/ASA stuff. One of the best books I've ever read!!

What you need for the ASA's firewalls,

After looking at this book, I was blown away at how well it is written, and kept me interested in reading it. If you need to get a ASA up and running, and need to do it fast and correct, this is the book.
This book will be used and used often, and will not sit on my book self, like a few Cisco books that I have, that have been known to help me sleep. Again a great book, and worth every penny.

After obtaining my CCNA and CCNA Security I bought this book. I read it in a week and a half and was blown away at how well written it was. The author does a great job at keeping you in tune with how the ASA devices work, and shows the configuration of the lesson near the end of each chapter. Awesome book.
