Editorial Reviews

REISSUED! Mercury Program was born in 1997 in Gainesville, FL. Mercury Program’s “collective sound is very much groove-oriented at the bottom, but given to loopy, spinning guitar bits, and Phillip Glassish melodic abstraction on the vibraphone and keyboard” according to pitchfork media. Maserati are a band from Athens, GA that started in 2000. “Maserati has a huge confident sound full of spacious atmospheric guitar work grounded by a tight rhythm section and prominent, dynamic basslines” according to pitchfork media

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning music July 26, 2004
Format:Audio CD
the mercury program have come along way and the 3 songs on here is their best yet.much more introspective and interesting than previous efforts, i luv were their headed.maserati just keep impressing the shi# out of me.overall the 6 songs represent the best of both groups and the music comes together on this disc as the best split E.P ive heard in a long long time.the extras are a bonus but its about the music.if your interested in these bands at all DONT MISS this recording.

4.0 out of 5 stars YES November 16, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This EP is real great, gives you an idea of what the band is evolving into, and it's freaking time that everyone discovers these guys !!! you also get some maserati who are also great ! AND a plus ! you get a DVD ! it includes a video for A data learn the language's "EGYPT" and this EP's "You give me problems about my business" and videos for all the maserati songs that are on the EP. this is a real fun EP, but i give 4 stars because it's short. I suggest listening to A data learn the language and From the Vapor of Gasoline before getting this EP though. it's up to you !

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite instrumental/post-rock records ever. February 23, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
This split was one of the first pieces of music that got me into "post-rock" (which I define as: styles of music that emphasize non-lyrical characteristics like texture and atmosphere, rather than the "hook"-based tendencies of conventional pop/rock music).

The Mercury Program is, in my opinion, one of the best bands out there--their sound is so tight, clear, accurate, well-formed. I love these guys so much, and "You Give Me Problems About My Business" is one of their best tracks for sure.

Maserati is also a very good band; they're not necessarily one of my favorites, but on this split, they complement The Mercury Program flawlessly, and "Closer Than You Know How" remains one of the best songs I know for night-time-windows-down-cold-air driving.

I think this record is perfectly formed and I would recommend it to anyone who's interested in instrumental music with an introspective, thoughtful, intriguing atmosphere to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Band November 30, 2011

You're dumb if you pass up on listening to these guys. My very most favorite music out there today.
The drummer has extreme talent, along with the rest of the band.
Please for the love of your god continue to make benchmark music such as this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Confines of Heat July 9, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Since I received the CD, I play it often in my car on the drive home to relax. I especially like St. Rose of Lima by The Mercury Program, as it builds to a dramatic finale'. I recently loaned it to a friend.
