4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing stuff, June 26, 2000
By
Douglas T Martin (Alpharetta, GA USA) - See all my reviews

Amazing 2-CD document of British/European free jazz in the late 60's/early 70's. The first CD is The Trio - John Surman on reeds, Barre Phillips on bass, Stu Martin on drums; the second CD finds them joined by a variety of other musicians. The songs are challenging in an Ornette Coleman sort of way but never inaccessible. Not a recording for the casual jazz listener - it's more for the adventurous jazz lover.

All of "The Dawn Sessions" tracks are on "Glancing Backwards" (tracks 24-34).

Disc 2 of "The Dawn Sessions" is identical to "Live at Woodstock Town Hall".
