This is an awesome game that does a great job of putting you in the shoes of an America soldier during the Gulf War. The graphics are very good. I especially love the lens flare special effects and the introduction video. It's very well done. This game is definitely worth the money. I recommend this game to those who like tactical shooters/war games. It should...

This is a review of the PC port running on a P4 1.4 GHz, 256mb RDRAM, GeForce2 ULTRA 64mb, SBLive.

If you're a fan of squad-based tactical shooters, you will more than likely appreciate a few aspects of this game. The unit AI is a step above what's currently out there. You can actually count on your teammates to watch you back, and if care is taken when issuing orders, you'll be able to rely on them to keep the enemy at bay. The squad command interface is easy to get used to, but unfortunately a bit too simplistic. The enemy AI is acceptable - they'll use their full range of weapons, but I haven't seen them do anything all that impressive. To make up for their lack of intelligence, there seems to be an endless supply of enemy troops. I think this is a good thing, actually, as it keeps the tensions high through the entire mission. Like most tactical shooters, if your goal is to run around Rambo-style, you'll spend a lot of time dead. All in all, the game is entertaining and a welcome addition to the family of "games we play while waiting for Raven Shield."

Now for the bad part....

Don't expect much in the way of technical accuracy - this is not a military simulation. The weapon sound effects are nothing close to realistic, and neither is the damage system. They have a really good idea about downed soldiers - you have a limited amount of time to get a medkit to him before he's "fully dead," but they ruined it by allowing you to instantly bring him back to full health. Also, there are a number a weapons, ammunition, and items placed around the map, further reducing the experience and allowing firepower to be just as effective as good planning.

Don't expect much in the way of cutting-edge graphics either. We know that this title is available for at least 3 platforms, but what I'd really like to know is in what order they were developed/ported. It seems to me that the game was designed around the lowest common denominator, the PSX2, and then almost directly ported to the XBox and PC. There appears to be a few "eye candy" options developed for the XBox's nv20 or a GeForce3, but it seems like they were just added in at the 11th hour (really, it looks like the only difference between the psx2 and PC/XBox versions is a pixel shader and a vertex program for the "animated shrubs.")

What I find is the biggest problem with the game is the limited amount of replay value. Once you've completed the missions on the highest difficulty setting, there's really nothing else to do but pass it on to a friend or let it collect dust. This may be standard practice for console games, but I expect much more on a PC. Take a look at the binaries and you'll see that there's really not much you can do with the game without dissassembling and breaking the EULA. This makes the prospect of a mod community and fan-created content virtually nonexistent, although I will be really pleased if I'm proved wrong.

Bottom Line: With its ($) price tag, I recommend using caution before purchasing this game. Be sure you understand that it's a console port and all that that fact entails - especially the "arcade" gameplay. I have enjoyed playing this game, and I believe that it will stay installed on my hard drive for at least another week, but it is definately not of Ghost Recon or Operation Flashpoint quality.

I recommend this game to those who like tactical shooters/war games. It should appeal to gamers who enjoy Medal Of Honor. 9/10 stars because of some controlling issues. Also, a warning, I recommend turning "acceleration" of the mouse OFF. Otherwise the cursor barely moves.

Conflict: Desert Storm is very well done as a military simulation for practicing basic infantry combat tactics, while still keeping the game really fun on a shooter-type level. There are not very many games out there with that winning combination of realism, excitement, enjoyment, and playability. This is one of the few that successfully combines all of these elements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game!, May 15, 2003

This game is incrediable! The graphics are stunning, the A.I. is challening, commanding more than 1 man is lots of fun, great weapons, can anyone say Laser Guided Missles?, and the game is soooo realistic! The hardest part is aiming. I know, you are probably saying, "What a morhon, aming is easy!" Not really, in one mission, I used my sniper rifle to take out a guy and 2 others came at me. So, I got of my scope and shot one of them in what appeared to be the head. Well, the mouse sensitivity moved so far, I actually shot the cliff ABOUT A MILE AWAY FROM THE GUY.

Pros
------------------------
1.Play as Delta Force or U.K. Special Air Service (S.A.S.)
2.Very good terrain, graphics put you right into the actual war
3.Actual missions from Desert Storm. (Game was created by an S.A.S. Commando that served in Desert Storm.)
4.Good guns
5.Long missions
6.Great characters

Cons
-----------------------------------------
1.Aiming
2.Gaining rank takes lots of time
3.Losing one of your men in the mission (hard to complete mission without all of them)
4.Slow moving cursor
5.Mouse Sensitivity!

No matter what anybody says about this game, get it! Itis sooo good. Trust me!

This is the most realistic game i have ever played!!! Thrilling, exciting, and realistic missions!! The game is based on the Persian Gulf war of 1991. Your missions can go from the streets of Kuwait City to the deserts of Iraq and Saudi Arabia. A huge inventory of weapons from a bazooka to C4 plastic explosives. You can pick from the British SAS or the USA Delta Force. You control 4 soldiers at the same time if you choose to. There are real ranks and medals for completing missions well. This is a very good game with great graphics and story line. I seriously sugest you buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desert Storm, November 9, 2003

This is a very good game. graphics are pretty good but my system has a very weak graphics card so its a little choppy at times. The sound isn't anything great, The guns are way off of the what there supposed to sound like. You get many different guns. a couple machine guns, sniper rifles, and assult rifles throught the game. You control any 1 of 4 characters. The'll actually cover you if your trying to help a downed soldier.

Not much bad. The sound on the guns aren't very good, especailly on the machine guns. That damn machine gunner, Conners, is trigger happy. if you keep him with you while your trying to infiltrate quietly your screwed. He'll just start blasting a way at things. I've had him where he takes out the rocket luancher to kill 3 enemy soldiers. i usually leave all the rest of my men behind because they make to much noise. I like to sneak. Sometimes I just take all there weapons set a c4 and blow my team up. The game either could have had more levels or longer levels. On hard it only takes about 10 hours and I kill every Iraqi I see. It's a great game with a few flaws but still very fun. Rent before you buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult, but lots of fun, March 9, 2003

The graphics and sound effects are great, and its fun controlling 4 guys.

My only 2 bad points:

1) You have to waste a save at the beginning of a level

2) Can't control mouse sensitivity. In a close firefight it is very hard to aim quickly.

Overall, a fun game.

Very addictive 1st and 3rd person view game with lots of features. It is not just 'kill 'em all' game it is shooter/strategy game that will force you to think and each mission provides goals and a map. Choose an SAS or DELTA FORCE team go in and get the job done. You can switch between your 4 team members and play with different types of weapons (heavy machine-gun, sniper rifle, rocket-launcher(bazooka), mp5, m40, set c-4 explosives, hand/smoke granades, heal each other with medikit or steal the enemy weapons. Good effects and graphics overall. Personally enjoyed the game.

This game is fun and exciting, but rather short. If there had been more missions or even longer missions, I'd rate this game at 5 stars. But it's still addictive, and I play it over and over, on all levels of difficulty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth a new-game price., October 13, 2002

A poor game all around and vastly inferior to SOCOM. The animation of the on-screen characters is pathetic, shot Iraqis go flying through the air like they're made of styrofoam. The comabt is not very realistic, nor are the graphics, nor are many of the sounds and voices in the game. The worst thing about this game is the weapons targeting. Your character can target automagically, except when the game messes up and swings the gun in some wild direction, blah, it's not even worth another full sentence. Avoid it.
