shows some promise, March 29, 2003
This review is from: Conflict of Interest (Audio CD)
I think the fellow below got it a bit wrong, this is not a full-length album but a mini-CD, sort of a preview of Darkwell's next full-length, so there are only six songs here. And, the multi-media track wasn't fully cooperative on my computer, but it's there, and mainly features videos of the two live versions of the songs from Suspiria which appear on this CD (it was interesting seeing the band live, but somebody seemed to have had a little too much fun with some special effects which sadly detracted from the videos a bit... I'd say you aren't missing out on a whole lot if you can't see the multimedia track, don't lose any sleep over it.)
I didn't feel quite as "comfortable" with this CD as I do with Suspiria, it really doesn't feel quite complete in the production or something, which keeps me from rating it any higher, which is a shame because I like the band, the new songs show great promise, and the live vocals were amazing - I didn't know what to expect, but Alexandra's voice sounds at least as good live as it does on Suspiria.
No, this isn't another Suspiria, nor was it meant to be, but I'd hardly call it a complete rip-off or anything. Based on what I hear on this disc, I look forward to the full-length, especially because of "The Crucible" and "Twist in My Sobriety", which are at least as strong as anything from Suspiria.

An energetic CD with 2 bonus videos, August 30, 2003
This review is from: Conflict of Interest (Audio CD)
I really liked this CD. Its run-time was just over 30 minutes but it had 5 new tracks from one of the best new Goth-Metal bands out there. The live performances of the Salvation and Realm of Darkness were excellent. The Bonus Multimedia Tracks can be accessed through a computer's CD-Rom drive. They are videos of the Salvation and Realm of Darkness. Suspira was a Goth-Metal CD with heavy guitars and a singer with classical voice training. Conflict of Interest continues the tradition.

No effort..., December 26, 2002
This review is from: Conflict of Interest (Audio CD)
Now, I really liked Suspiria, but it shows that they put little effort into Conflict.. mainly because there are only 5 or 6 new songs on it, which are all just average. Maybe I'm just imaginning it, but thier Bonus Multimedia Track is oddly missing. Do they count her saying thank you to the crowd as Multimedia? Eh, you cant expect much from a bunch of goth kids who look like they recently got out of high school...
