5.0 out of 5 stars Style, plot, characters and unforgettable scenes
This legal thriller by Melanie West is up there with the best. The story is told in a tight and terse style, and there are plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing from beginning to end. The characters are believable, likable, funny, and sometimes downright scary.

I especially enjoyed the suspense scenes that take you on an unforgettable San Francisco...

2.0 out of 5 stars maybe if you're a lawyer...
I had trouble getting interested in this book. I kept reading it hoping it would pick up, but I found the plot slow & predictable. The love interest plot line seemed like an afterthought. Also, far too much time is spent learning about the legal aspects of the case--dry stuff for non-lawyers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could Not Put It Down, August 1, 2007
This review is from: Conflict of Interest (Paperback)
I read this book in one long sitting because I could not make myself stop wondering what was coming next. Having recently finished reading every Nero Wolfe book in chronological order, I was hungering for something else that moved like Archie Goodwin, worked out problems with a brilliant mind like Mr. Wolfe himself. The East Bay is beautifully described, made me hunger for the streets, vistas, and cuisine of home. I hope this author turns out a whole Stryker series.
