5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Balanced View of Tough Issues, July 22, 2001
By
"mofnet" (Overland Park, KS USA) - See all my reviews
Adam Hamilton is my pastor and I had the privilege of hearing his sermon series on controversial issues. Through all of his study and research for the sermons, he created this book. Each of the seven chapters covers one issue. They include the following: The Separation of Church and State, Creation and Evolution in the Public Schools, The Death Penalty, Euthanasia, Prayer in Public Schools, Abortion, and Homosexuality. In each chapter, Adam presents the most common and convincing arguments for both sides of an issue. Then he gives his conclusions and his personal stance on the issue. Although I would characterize Adam as a moderate, you'll find his various conclusions not representing liberalism or conservatism, but his search for the truth in Christianity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for "thinking" Christians, July 26, 2005
Adam Hamilton's outstanding book gives a concise overview of different perspectives within the Christian community on issues that are problematic for many of us such as abortion, homosexuality, euthanasia and the death penalty. I found the chapters on homosexuality and the death penalty to be particularly enlightening because he is so candid with regard to his own struggle to come to terms with these questions. If you want to confront the "truth" in both sides of these controversies and to challenge yourself to understand why you believe what you do, this is the book for you. One of the best Christian books I have ever read. And did I mention that it is well-written, concise, easy to understand and includes discussion questions at the end of each chapter? I am buying multiple copies for friends and family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Confronting the Controversies, January 12, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Adam does a nice job of walking you through the issue and leaves it somewhat open so you can create your own thoughts and beliefs. Unlike popular media where you are told what to think - Adam takes a far better approach so you as a Child of Christ can work through the issue depending on where you are at with your journey.
