Its funny for a melodic metal fan like me to love this album so much. I found out about Raunchy on Nuclear Blast's "Death is Just the Beginning, Volume 7" CD. "Twelve Feet Tall" from their debut album Velvet Noise is towards the end of disc 1. After listening to this album, I would like to compare the music to a heavier In Flames meets the melodicness of Theatre of Tragedy's Assembly album. In other words, sure, the lyrics are very nu-metalish, which is what's all over America now (sad but true), BUT, keyboards in this, although industrial, are superior and make the music enjoyable even though you're hearing "suck my d***" in my 2 favorites songs.
So if you're into any kind of industrial music, nu-metal, death metal, or perhaps even melodic thrash metal, you just have to check this album out. The music is absolutely incredible. A few of my buddies from our school trip to Bermuda even didn't say this was that bad (and I played the album's fastest song (guess which one it is) for them). So... you're a Fear Factory, In Flames, Slipknot (God how it hurts to use that name in a review), Messugah, even - just give them a listen. Speed? Well... first of all, I'll tell you that every song is at a different place on the `heaviness scale'. You can't possibly get bored listening to this album. However, the vocals are screamed - not sung, grunted, or growled (no female vocals). Okay, now onto speed. A lot of the songs are mid-tempo, and there's even one toward the end of the album that's borderline-ballad. A lot more of the songs are just past mid-tempo, which is a great speed for songs to sound different than one another. 9-5 and Insane are the album's fastest, but there's one or 2 others that are quite fast. Musically, this is seriously one of my favorite albums! (Why can't the American bands do it this way???) I'm into Stratovarius, Helloween, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Agathodaimon, Hyprocrisy, Skylark, Heavenly - those bands, and yet, I STILL enjoy this. Its not music to headbang to, but its still great. I hope I helped you in deciding whether to or not purchase this (wonderful) album. If I helped, please say so! I have a lot of other reviews (and now, I have my own list here on amazon!), so read them when you get a chance. Type in "Tunnelvision" and you should get to the list.

what can I say. Raunchy is a great band. This album is a little bit different then their first album. It sounds more like their own sound rather then Fear Factory or Strapping Young Lad. I just have no idea how they are going to do now that their vocalist Lars have left the group. I wish them the best of luck and hope they get to tour the states soon. 5*****

WOW Great Melodic Metal,

This CD is one of the most melodic and sing-a-long CD's I've gotten in a long time. The lyrics to the songs I must admit are a little Perverted but all in all I love this CD. The type of screming the singer dose is no different the sceaming in Mnemic and they are another good metal band from denmark. The first song Starts off with a little Tecno and that then leads to the screaming and great melodic singing. Then Summer of Overload, by far the best CD on the whole entire CD the Melodic singing druing the Choris with the Heavy Screaming following it just Ties this song in a not. Then Watch Out the second best song on the album that has great screaming verses followed by the great singing of the key boardest. Thats then followed by 9-5 which is the Heavest song on the Album which also ends in some really good keyboards. and Then Theres Confusion Bay and Devil. These songs, the Singer or Sreamer turns his voice into a replica of the Type o Negative singer and it shows in Devil. Now I'm Not saying that there bad songs I am saying that they are Different. I Really Like the style and form of this album and I cant wait to hear from them again.
Well this Cd is recomended for fans of Soilwork, Mnemic, In Flames, Still Remains and of Course Type O Negative. I really enjoy this CD and Its not only the Metal, The necno is also a great aspect of this CD. Forever Horns McGreevy

Great post-modern metal,

It is evident that Raunchy is genuinely concerned with bringing metal into the 21st century with style, rather than poring over what was the norm some 20 or so years ago. Like lablemates Mnemic, they defy comparions with much of anyone, seamlessly incorporating familiar techniques of the metal trade with uncompromising innovation. Ironically enough, such a progressive approach may deter certain listeners who seem to like everything to sound the same forever sans change. Though Raunchy may be a relatively young band, this album exemplifies that they can certainly offer many old pros quite a few pointers on keeping the genre fresh and alive.

Who would have thought that a band with the name like "Raunchy" would manage to produce well executed, melodic, and truly unique metal? Don't let the band's name get in the way and force you to make radical assumptions about their sound and style. Raunchy does a great job of producing harsh, powerful songs, that blend elements of Electronic Metal with Melodic Death Metal, Metalcore, and even Thrash. The resulting mixture is something truly unique that sets Raunchy apart from other bands within the Melodic Death Metal scene. The album "Confusion Bay" takes on a slightly different sound than later albums. Mostly due to the change in vocalists that occurred following the release of "Confusion Bay". The vocals on this album range from harsh raspy growls to well sung, and beautifully harmonized cleans. The clean signing adds a new dimension to their sound, allowing many of the tracks to be rather catchy as a result of the inclusion of this vocalization style. Stand out tracks include the single "Watch Out", as well as "Join the Scene", and my personal favorite track on the album "Show Me Your Real Darkness". Overall, the tracks are paced fairly well, nice tempos and upbeats, with great poly-rhythms and grooves. The riffs fit nicely with the vocal styles of the two singers Jeppe Christensen (clean) and Lars Vognstrup (harsh vocals). Jeppe and Lars' vocals blend nicely together throughout the album. Overall, if you're a fan of Melodic Death Metal, Metalcore, or possibly even Alternative Metal, you may find something worth listening to on "Confusion Bay". Great album from start to finish, and one definitely worth adding to your collection. "Confusion Bay" was the last album that contained Lars on vocals, and it's a great showcase of what his vocalization skills were capable of.

I absolutely love this album to death. Raunchy has become one of my favorite bands over the last couple years. Confusion Bay is the last album to feature their original lead singer which is sad because I loved his style. I've become a huge fan of metal bands that are heavily driven by keyboards because it just adds a different element of melody to the music that I can't explain. I love the lyrical themes here because they have this dirty sleazy vibe to it and I feel that it's something you don't hear too much in metal music. It's just fun and well Raunchy. If you enjoy bands like Fear Factory, In Flames or Mnemic than Raunchy is for you.

if fear factory and type o negative ever got in a fight, you would have the idea of what raunchy sounds like. however, the lead singer for raunchy has normal vocals, unlike burton c. bell's angry shout/ growl or peter steele's baritone. they mix a little atmospheric keyboards in too, but everything is balanced out. this band deserves more than 5 stars.
