More About the Author

VIRGINIA SATIR (1916-1988) was a pioneering psychotherapist, lecturer, and author; she was internationally renowned for her work, especially in the field of family therapy. Considered one of the most distinguished therapists in recent history and selected to be on the boards of numerous prestigious councils, Satir was also known for her Change Process Model, still embraced today. Time magazine once wrote of her, "She can fill any auditorium in the country." She cofounded the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, the first organization to establish a formal training program in family therapy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Less accessible Satir, April 1, 2000
By
This review is from: Conjoint Family Therapy: (Paperback)
Conjoint Family Therapy is full of good information, however its outline style makes the book difficult to follow. Unlike other Satir books, Conjoint Family Therapy seems targeted only to Psychotherapists. I missed the humor and humanity that characterizes other books by the author.

I happen to scan this book in a library and I fell in love with the trememndous insights contained in such a brief and concise outline.

I would recommend this book for parents as well as as for Psych or Counseling students.

When I read this book I was amazed at how user friendly it was.
Knowing that Virgina Satir was one of the great pioneers in the field of family therapy and her work with Systemic Constellations I guess I expected that the book would be much more clinical, dry and filled with vast intellectual mazes of explaining the family system. What you will find in this book is that the first 2 parts of this book you could literally give to a client, a friend, even a teen and that it would be accessible to them. The book is written about communication in a simple format that teaches what it is talking about.
This book should be a must read for all communication classes, and basically any profession that requires group work.
There are 3 parts to the book: Family Theory, Communications theory, and Therapy and Practice of Therapy.
The 2nd part on communications theory is so amazingly easy, interesting and insightful to read that you'll read it again and again.
One of the most valuable therapy books I own. Extremely practical.
